The Anderson Company, LLC, a site development company for over 27 years is seeking A entry level laborer, topman, tailman & pipe layer for our utilities division. We operate in the DC metro area. We are hiring experienced and entry-level Utility Crew Members to support the installation of underground sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and water main systems. Positions may include Pipe Laborer, Tailman, Pipe Layer, and Topman. Crew members work together to safely install pipe, maintain grade and alignment, and ensure quality and efficiency on active construction sites.
Key Responsibilities (vary by role):
- Assist with the installation of sanitary sewer, storm drain, and water main piping
- Perform trench work, including excavation support, shoring, and backfilling
- Set, align, and connect pipe to proper grade using lasers and grade rods (Pipe Layer)
- Guide pipe placement and ensure proper joint assembly and sealing (Tailman)
- Assist with surface operations, materials handling, and site coordination (Topman)
- Load/unload materials, tools, and equipment; maintain a clean and organized jobsite
- Work around heavy equipment and assist operators during trenching and pipe placement
- Follow all safety procedures, including trench safety and confined space awareness
- Perform general labor duties as needed to support the crew and project completion
Requirements:
- Experience in underground utility construction preferred (role dependent; entry-level considered for laborers)
- Knowledge of sanitary sewer, storm drain, and/or water main installation practices is a plus
- Ability to work in trenches, varying weather conditions, and physically demanding environments
- Must be able to follow directions and work effectively as part of a crew
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites
