Starke Ayres is the foremost African specialist and global supplier of premium vegetable, flower and lawn seed varieties – both for commercial and home garden planting. The following position has become available for a Bookkeeper, based in Epping, Cape Town.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Processing of company credit card & petty cash reconciliations
- Accurate and timeous processing of company credit card and petty cash reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Ensuring that all reconciliations are received by set deadlines and escalating outstanding reconciliations to management.
- Checks the validity and accuracy of allocations and support per recon to ensure expenses reflect in the correct general ledger accounts and periods.
Ensures timeous and accurate postings of financial information monthly
Ensures timeous and accurate postings of the following monthly to comply with Group reporting requirements:
- Bank transactions
- Garden Centre information
- Fleet transactions
- Lease agreements (vehicles)
- Merchant transactions
- Loan & Interest
- Prepayments & Accruals
- Other as requested by manager
Bank Reconciliation
- Performs monthly cash book reconciliations and addresses outstanding transactions with the relevant departments.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Performs monthly reconciliations on balance sheet accounts, ensuring that balances on accounts are supported and addressed, and any unreconciled items are cleared.
VAT Returns
- Assists in preparing and submitting of company VAT returns.
Filing
- Ensures that all documents are stored in safe, orderly, and accessible manner whether electronically or hardcopies.
General
- Assists with the year end audit by completing annual reconciliations as requested by the Financial Manager and providing the audit team with the support required.
- Adhoc requests by Financial Director for Financial Manager
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualification:
- Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (essential)
- Bachelor’s degree finance or Bookkeeping diploma (preferential)
Experience:
- 2 – 3 years’ experience in as a bookkeeper
Knowledge:
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
- Strong reconciliation knowledge (bank, supplier, petty cash, etc.)
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Sage X3 preferred)
Skills:
- MS Office and MS Teams- Advanced Excel
- Sage X3 (preferable)
- Attention to detail.
