Job Advert Summary
The Quantity Surveyor will support Solareff’s Supply Chain function by developing, maintaining, and optimising cost models, pricing structures, and quantity surveying data for renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, and construction projects. The incumbent will ensure that accurate costing information is maintained within the ERP system, support sales and tendering activities, engage with suppliers and subcontractors regarding measurable work rates, and provide commercial input to improve project profitability and competitiveness.
The role requires a strong understanding of quantity surveying principles, construction methodologies, and cost management practices, with exposure to the power, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- BSc Quantity Surveying (QS), BTech Quantity Surveying, National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent qualification.
- Membership or registration with a relevant professional body will be advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, engineering, infrastructure, or energy-related industries.
- Experience in power generation, renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, or energy distribution projects is highly advantageous.
- Civil construction quantity surveying experience will be beneficial.
- Experience working with ERP systems and cost databases.
- Experience supporting tendering and estimating functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimation and Cost Management
- Develop, maintain, and update accurate cost databases, unit rates, and pricing schedules within the ERP system.
- Ensure all quantities, units of measure, labour rates, equipment costs, and material costs are accurately captured and maintained.
- Analyse historical project costs and market trends to improve estimating accuracy.
- Review project scope documentation, drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities to develop reliable cost estimates.
- Support the preparation of project budgets and cost forecasts.
Supplier and Contractor Cost Management
- Engage with suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers to obtain and validate current rates for re-measurable and schedule-of-rate work.
- Conduct regular market benchmarking exercises to ensure Solareff remains competitive.
- Maintain accurate records of vendor pricing and commercial agreements.
- Support supplier negotiations by providing commercial analysis and cost insights.
Tender and Commercial Support
- Collaborate closely with the Sales Department on Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Engineering, and Tender teams to develop competitive and commercially viable pricing solutions.
- Provide quantity surveying input during tender preparation and bid reviews.
- Assist with cost optimisation initiatives to improve tender competitiveness and project margins.
- Evaluate alternative materials, methodologies, and procurement strategies to achieve cost efficiencies.
Quantity Surveying and Contract Administration
- Apply quantity surveying principles and best practices throughout project lifecycles.
- Prepare and review bills of quantities, cost plans, and measurement schedules.
- Assist in evaluating variations, claims, and contract changes where required.
- Monitor project costs against approved budgets and identify variances.
- Support commercial reporting and project cost reconciliation activities.
Reporting and Analysis
- Generate regular cost analysis reports and pricing updates.
- Provide detailed commercial insights and recommendations to management.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement of costing methodologies and processes.
