Low-Code Application Developer & AI Engineer Lead Jobs in Johannesburg at African Arete
We are seeking an Senior Low-Code Application Developer & AI Engineer Lead will play a pivotal role in designing, prototyping, building, and supporting high-quality low-code, automation and AI-enabled solutions within an agile delivery environment. The role combines strong hands-on application development capability with practical solution architecture, AI engineering, integration thinking, reusable component design, and team mentorship.
The successful candidate will help translate business opportunities into working prototypes, MVPs and full production solutions, using Microsoft technologies, AWS and open-source tools, APIs and modern software engineering practices. This role is suited to a technically strong practitioner who can move comfortably between business problem framing, solution design, hands-on build, technical leadership and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Systems, Data/AI, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in low-code development and software delivery.
- Proven experience delivering applications or automations in an agile or iterative delivery environment.
- Experience moving solutions from idea or requirements into working prototypes, MVPs and production-ready applications.
- Experience working with business stakeholders to clarify requirements, assess feasibility and translate business needs into technical designs.
- Low code related certifications – Advantageous but not mandatory
- AI related topic certifications – Advantageous but not mandatory

- Strong hands-on experience with low-code or rapid application development platforms.
- Ability to design data models, user interfaces, business rules, automated workflows, permissions and supportable application logic.
- Understanding of application lifecycle management, environment management, solution packaging, release practices and platform constraints.
- Understanding of generative AI concepts, LLM strengths and limitations, prompt engineering, AI output validation, guardrails and responsible AI principles.
- Experience identifying AI use cases and applying AI to requirements analysis, solution design, content generation, document processing, reporting, decision support or workflow automation.
- Ability to work with structured and unstructured data, interpret data outputs, and contribute to AI-driven insights or reporting using tools such as Power BI.
- Integration, Development and Architecture
- Practical understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, connectors, authentication concepts, data integration and error handling.
- Familiarity with software architecture and design principles, including modularity, security, scalability, maintainability, reuse and integration patterns.
- Working knowledge of SQL, data modelling, database concepts and basic performance considerations.
