Workshop Manager — Independent Auto Service Group

Job type: Full-time, permanent Salary: R30,000 – R40,000 per month + performance incentive

About us
We’re a Cape Town-based independent automotive service group with three branches across the Southern Suburbs. Family-owned for over 25 years, we punch above our weight on tooling, training, and systems — including custom-built workshop software that goes beyond what most independents run. We’re hiring a Workshop Manager to take ownership of one of our branches and run it like it’s their own.

What you’ll actually do
You’re the person the technicians, service advisors, and customers all look to. Day to day:
- Run daily WIP planning so jobs flow and capacity gets used
- Drive technician productivity and efficiency, hold the line on quality
- Coach and develop the team — performance reviews, training plans, the unglamorous work that builds a workshop
- Own customer outcomes: keep clients informed, resolve complaints fast, sign off on QC before vehicles leave
- Manage job card accuracy, parts procurement, warranty recoveries, and outwork pricing
- Report weekly on WIP, open job cards, open POs, and branch P&L
- Hold the workshop to OEM service schedules, health & safety, and our SOPs
What we need from you
Non-negotiable
- 3–5 years managing a workshop or field service team (not just being a senior tech)
- Solid technical background — qualified mechanic, trade test, or equivalent
- Comfortable with technology: we run AutoManage plus custom-built tools, and you’ll use them daily
- Strong written and spoken English
- Valid driver’s licence
Nice to have
- Independent (non-dealer) workshop experience
- Exposure to German marques (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW)
- Manufacturer-approved service centre experience
- Diesel qualification is beneficial
