Takaful – Portfolio Manager Jobs in Johannesburg at Bryte Insurance

The Portfolio Manager’s role is to manage, develop and grow a designated panel of Brokers, to retain existing business and generate new business opportunities with new Brokers and achieve the desired sales volumes, achieve Gross Written Premiums (GWP) and Loss Ratio Targets.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement a Business Plan for the allocated portfolio that identifies market opportunities, growth potential, and strategic initiatives aligned to the Takaful business objectives.
  • Develop and execute a Sales and Distribution Plan that demonstrates the ability to identify, develop, and manage new and existing broker and distribution opportunities.
  • Manage and grow the allocated broker and binder portfolio to achieve Gross Written Contribution (GWC), profitability, retention, and growth targets.
  • Drive sustainable portfolio growth through the acquisition of new business opportunities and the strengthening of existing broker and partner relationships.
  • Retain and optimise existing business through effective portfolio management, relationship engagement, and proactive underwriting interventions.
  • Analyse broker business performance, market opportunities, and portfolio trends to identify strategic growth opportunities and improve portfolio outcomes.
  • Deliver and enhance high levels of broker and stakeholder satisfaction by understanding business needs and providing value-added Takaful solutions and service excellence.
  • Develop and strengthen broker and distribution relationships through regular engagement, influence, collaboration, and business development initiatives.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, productivity levels, profitability, and service delivery metrics within agreed reporting structures and formats.
  • Ensure underwriting and portfolio management activities are conducted within delegated authority limits and in accordance with approved underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Ensure compliance with technical underwriting standards, operational procedures, governance controls, and Takaful principles.
  • Implement agreed underwriting and portfolio management actions to achieve targeted loss ratios, profitability levels, and sustainable portfolio performance.
  • Ensure adherence to approved risk acceptance criteria, underwriting philosophy, pricing models, and reinsurance parameters applicable to the Takaful business.
  • Ensure adherence to approved risk classifications, referral processes, and decline criteria in line with governance and underwriting requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with underwriting, operations, claims, and other internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery and portfolio support.
  • Contribute to the growth and market positioning of the Takaful business through market intelligence, broker engagement, and participation in strategic initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12
  • Insurance qualification or technical qualification advantageous
  • A formal business degree/qualification will be advantageous
  • Min 5 years technical expertise in insurance business across Commercial and Personal Lines of business
  • Business development and/or Portfolio Management experience
  • Proven experience with brokerages will be an advantage
  • Must have RE5. RE1 will be an advantage and a requirement after appointment


Knowledge

  • Sound understanding and knowledge of South African Insurance market experience within Sales
  • Sound knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of local HCV markets and industry sectors.
  • Sound knowledge of Bryte Insurance South Africa and its business strategy and objectives.


Travel and Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel as required to support broker relationship management, business development activities, and regional portfolio oversight.
  • Own reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s licence are essential for effective management of the allocated broker and partner portfolio
