Takaful-Commercial Underwriter

Key Tasks & Accountabilities

Profit and growth

• Ensure that the Company is not over committed on individual risks
• Review targets monthly
• Ensure that the Company reinsurance standards are always adhered to
• Report to the market facing underwriter on large variances and large claims

Effective management of Takaful portfolio

• Timeously assist with the resolution of problems
• Review figures of various portfolios
• Collaboration with Bryte commercial business streams
• First level reporting on portfolio performance
• Policy screening and remedial actions on assigned portfolio
• Loss Ratio management on assigned portfolio
• Applying underwriting disciplines within assigned delegation of authority
• Drive underwriting aimed at portfolio sustainability

Technical Support

• Assist with technical support and negotiations on accounts
• Analyse client information to determine marketing needs
• Provide input to Brokers regarding claims to ensure timeous resolution
• Ensure policies/renewals are issued timeously and correctly

Credit control

• Ensure that payments are received on time in terms of legislation and company policies
• Resolve high level problems regarding credit control
• Assist the regions and/or business unit in reconciliations

Professional conduct and Accountability

• Lead by example in living the values of Bryte
• Ensure that the technical knowledge/expertise is enhanced
• Communicate effectively, building and maintaining relationships
• Ensure consistent compliance to company policies and procedures, corporate governance and relevant legislation
• Ability to work in a team environment and adaptable to team dynamics

Qualification & Experience

• Matric/NQF level 4
• Insurance qualification or technical qualification advantageous
• Min 2 years technical expertise in insurance business across Commercial and Personal Lines of business
• Proven experience with brokerages will be an advantage
• RE5 is a requirement

Knowledge

• Fair understanding and knowledge of South African Engineering Insurance/reinsurance market
• Strong competency in Engineering underwriting
• FAIS compliant
• Clear criminal and credit record
