Shipfitter
Norfolk, VA
Currently looking for a skilled Shipfitter to fill an opening with a company located in Norfolk, VA. Interested candidates should have at least 5 years of experience working as a Shipfitter and be familiar with the typical environment found in the shipyard and ship repair industry.
Responsibilities of the Shipfitter
- Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
- Verify conformance of work-pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Tack-weld fitted parts together.
- Lay out and examine metal stock or work-pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
- Locate and mark work-piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
- Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
Requirements of the Shipfitter
- Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job without accommodation.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE – Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses W/Tinted Lenses, Hardhat, Respirator, Hearing Protection).
- Ability to lift and/or carry equipment/objects greater than 50lbs.
- Familiar with typical environment found in the shipyard and ship repair industry.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary, Contract
Pay: From $26.00 per hour
