SENIOR DEBT COLLECTOR (CPT)

Job Advert Summary

An opportunity exists for a Senior Debt Collector who will be responsible for managing complex delinquent accounts, negotiating high-value payment arrangements, and handling skip tracing. They will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, reconciling accounts, and escalating accounts for potential legal action or business rescue, acting as the highest tier of recovery before total write-off

Minimum Requirements

• Matric
• 3 to 5 years of proven experience in debt collection, credit control, or a legal collections environment
• Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel), and working knowledge of accounting or ERP systems
• Strong debtors’ management and collections experience.
• Advanced account reconciliation skills.
• Experience dealing with high-volume and complex customer accounts.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
• Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening, with the ability to efficiently communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of basic accounting principles.

Duties and Responsibilities

• High-Level Negotiations: Contact debtors with overdue high-value or long-standing accounts and negotiate feasible repayment terms or settlements.
• Skip Tracing: Utilize specialized databases to trace debtors and assets.
• Account Reconciliation: Investigate and resolve complex invoice disputes or discrepancies in collaboration with billing and operations teams.
• Legal Escalations: Prepare necessary documentation and manage the handover of unrecoverable debt to relevant internal agencies.
• Portfolio Management: Identify high-risk accounts early and implement strategies to prevent further financial loss.
• Compliance: Maintain a strong working knowledge of credit control and local legal requirements (e.g., the National Credit Act in South Africa) to ensure all collection activities are strictly compliant Risk
• Management & Strategy: Analyze age analysis reports and set collection strategies to minimize financial exposure.
