About the Job
As part of a small and passionate team of developers and engineers, you will play a key role in creating electronic sensors, navigation and guidance systems. Your contributions will play a key role in commercializing advanced location and navigation technology and transitioning them from R&D to development and into production.
This role is focused on mechanical engineering and includes a diverse range of technical responsibilities including system design, drafting, modeling, measuring, testing and validation, as well as leading continuous improvement initiatives for manufacturing and engineering processes.
You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment while contributing to innovative solutions, demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail.
Engineering opportunities exist at multiple experience levels.
Responsibilities
DESIGN
- Design and draft mechanical parts using best practices for parametric modeling and GDT to facilitate design reuse as well as fabrication.
- Build prototypes to guide and inform final architecture decision making
- Redesign exiting products to address shortcoming and reduce cost of existing designs.
- Fabricate new components and assemblies using 3D printing, CNC machining, injection molding, stamping, forming, forging, and casting
- Design test procedures and conduct product validations.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary product development projects spanning mechanical, electrical, firmware and app development.
MANUFACTURING
- Work with manufacturing to create right-sized tools, jigs, fixtures, and machines to support the high-quality production of products.
- Develop new and improve existing processes and procedures for new product introduction (NPI).
- Set up new products and train production team in computerized manufacturing system.
- Assist in writing documentation for the manufacturing team to build new products.
SUPPLIER
- Identify, qualify, and manage key suppliers for mechanical components and work with them over time to achieve top quality and delivery objectives.
- Perform measurement and inbound material inspection reports for new products as they transition into production.
QUALITY
- Participate in root cause investigations, corrective actions, process improvements, product testing and qualification, and product improvement initiatives.
- Perform failure analysis using advanced measurement methods such as SEM, EDX, FTIR (in house equipment with training provided) to determine why products have broken in the field or during highly accelerated life testing.
- Support continuous improvement activities (lean, six sigma, kaizen, 5s etc).
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering and 3 – 25 years of industry experience
- Well-developed organizational skills, prioritizing and completing assignments and projects independently, while balancing competing needs and attending to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills while working with team members or acting as a leader
- Proficiency modeling parts in SolidWorks, creating assemblies and 3D printing
- Desired: Material science including surface chemistry, plating, PCB and PCBA fabrication, FA using XRF, FTIR, SEM and EDS (EDX)
