Overview:

The Steenberg Golf Estate is seeking an experienced and strategic Landscape Manager to lead the maintenance, development, and presentation of the estate’s gardens and landscaped areas to exceptional standards. The role is responsible for managing all landscape operations through sound horticultural practices, ensuring the estate’s aesthetic, environmental, and service excellence standards are consistently achieved.

The successful candidate will provide strong leadership to the landscaping team through effective planning, guidance, coaching, and ongoing skills development to ensure high performance and operational excellence.

Experience and Requirements:

  • Minimum 5–8 years’ proven experience in landscaping, horticulture, or estate garden management, preferably within a luxury estate, hospitality, or golf course environment.
  • Diploma or qualification in Horticulture or Landscape Management (essential).
  • Previous management and team leadership experience, with the ability to lead, motivate, develop, and manage performance within a landscaping team.
  • Strong knowledge of plants, trees, irrigation practices, and landscaping principles suitable for the Western Cape climate.
  • Sound understanding of irrigation systems, landscape maintenance, and preventative maintenance practices.
  • Demonstrated creative vision and aesthetic understanding of landscaping and garden design, with the ability to work within established estate landscaping themes and contribute innovative ideas aligned to the estate’s landscaping vision and four landscaping themes.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Strong planning, organisational, and administrative skills with the ability to manage resources, schedules, and operational priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and implement management directives effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license (essential).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional, service-oriented approach and the ability to engage positively with residents, members, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the landscaping team to ensure the estate’s gardens, green spaces, and landscaped areas are maintained to exceptional standards.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily, weekly, and seasonal landscaping operations and maintenance activities.
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of horticultural practices, including plant health, irrigation, pest management, fertilisation, and environmental programmes.
  • Oversee and maintain all irrigation systems across the estate, ensuring efficient operation, water management, and timely repairs.
  • Conduct regular inspections to monitor landscaping quality, health and safety compliance, equipment condition, and overall estate presentation.
  • Manage landscaping and project budgets, stock control, procurement, and cost management in line with approved operational, capital, and project budgets.
  • Report directly to the CEO and provide monthly and quarterly updates on departmental performance, budgets, projects, operational requirements, and key landscaping initiatives.
  • Prepare operational reports, maintain accurate records, and provide regular feedback to management on departmental performance, projects, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, vehicles, and landscaping assets are properly maintained, controlled, and operated safely.
  • Lead, coach, train, and develop team members through ongoing guidance, performance management, and skills development initiatives.
  • Manage staffing, attendance, productivity, and workload allocation to ensure operational efficiency and service delivery standards are achieved.
  • Liaise and collaborate professionally with residents, members, contractors, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure a seamless Steenberg experience.
  • Drive environmental sustainability initiatives and integrated pest management practices to support responsible landscape management.
  • Prepare operational reports, maintain accurate records, and provide regular feedback to management on departmental performance, projects, and operational requirements.
  • Support and uphold the Steenberg culture, service standards, policies, and overall member and guest experience.
