JUNIOR MERCHANDISER (CPT)

Job Advert Summary

An opportunity exists for a Junior Merchandiser to join our Garment Development team. As the Junior Merchandiser your primary responsibility will be to act as the vital link between design, sourcing, and production, managing the product lifecycle from initial concepts to final, on-time delivery. You will track samples, cost new garments, and manage supplier communication to ensure quality and deadlines are met.

This individual is responsible for overseeing pre-production activities, sourcing and securing fabrics and trims, and maintaining a supplier library with documented prices.

This role involves daily follow-up to ensure urgent turnaround of required pre-production raw materials and handing over to raw material buyers once styles are production-ready. Responsibilities also include managing off-bulk sign-off, colour control of swatches and approvals, tech pack development, and involvement in both development/fitting and outwork sampling suppliers.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric + a minimum of 2-3 years of working experience in the clothing industry in a similar role.
• Fashion or Clothing-related Diploma be an advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel – Intermediate), Word, Outlook, MS Teams, SharePoint etc.
• ERP expertise (Acumatica, Pastel, Accpac, Sap etc).
• Excellent administrative skills.
• Active listening skills and ask questions to understand.
• Must have good written and verbal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Development & Sampling: Coordinating with buyers and factories for raw materials, lab dips, and sample approvals (Proto, Fit, Pre-production samples).
• Order Management: Managing the critical path from sampling to bulk production, ensuring shipments are on time.
• Costing & Sourcing: Assisting in negotiating prices, calculating garment costs, and updating the costing sheet.
• Documentation: Maintaining accurate technical files, BOM (Bill of Materials), and updating internal product databases.
• Quality & Standards: Ensuring garments meet technical specifications, fit requirements, and quality standards
• Supplier and Purchase Order Management: Create and manage purchase orders for fabric and trim orders. Verify invoices against orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• South African Market Insight: Understanding of local retail timelines, supplier capabilities, and compliance expectations. Awareness of CMT production flow and FOB procurement models commonly used in South Africa.
• Adaptability and Innovation: Comfortable working in fast-paced environments and adapting to shifting priorities.
