You are the face of 1 Source Rentals to our customer, bringing relief to their climate problems!
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing our customer orders, working with our Sales Rep, Regional Manager and our customer to deliver Best in Class Service. If you’re the right person for this role, you can expect to complete things like:
- Lead the Delivery of Best in Class Service: Whether driving a company vehicle to deliver or pick up equipment, or maintaining and repair our equipment at the shop, 1 Source Rentals will count on you to adopt our Best in Class Service mindset. This starts with properly operating equipment that is clean and free of defects, includes the maintenance and repairs of down equipment and runs through how professional the installations are completed. While not every customer order is directly fulfilled through your efforts, you are ultimately responsible for coaching and guiding your team in their delivery of Best in Class Service with equipment that is free of defects and runs through how professional the installations are completed.
- Support your team: Following our processes, leveraging the technology provided, and overseeing other skilled trades on your team, you’ll be expected to provide the right information about what you and your team complete in your day to day assignments back to others on the team in a remote environment. Through proper documentation, you tell the story of what you or your team accomplished, which ultimately leads to accurate invoicing for our customers.
- Interact with Customers: Once onsite with a customer, you and your team become the face of 1 Source Rentals. These interactions directly impact repeat business by how you can effectively communicate, solve problems, accommodate their requests, and how professional your installations of temporary HVAC equipment are completed. Guidance and coaching “in the moment” or after an order is fulfilled with Installation & Delivery Associates is a key part of the Service Lead role.
- Transportation of equipment to customer sites: whether a routine local order or an emergency out of town, our Service Leads are who we turn to when an order needs to be completed at the local and branch level. This can sometimes be through the work of others on the team or often be done by the Service Lead when multiple orders must be completed in the same day.
What does a normal work week look and feel like:
- Weather Related Business Demand – if there are extreme weather conditions, you can expect to work and work a good bit. This could be during normal working hours or extend in the evening. This means being on call and responding, working on holidays as necessary, and being available in the event of unplanned business demand. But don’t worry, we all pull together and do our part to support the customer!
- Seasonal Cycles – because the climate is a primary driver of our business, you can expect “shoulder months” between extreme heat seasons and extreme cold seasons. During Shoulder Months you’ll find yourself cleaning and organizing equipment, performing Annual Inspection and Readiness repairs, rotating out the equipment out of season and rotating in the equipment in season in our facility, and helping prepare the branch for the next order. During the height of heat and cold seasons, overtime is more available and there is plenty of work to be done! You’ll find yourself behind the wheel most of the time, traveling between our facility and customer locations to delivery Best in Class Service and/or performing field service work on our equipment.
- Behind the Wheel – the vast majority of the work as a Service Lead will keep you local, but be prepared to have some occasional overnight work away from your home market. You can anticipate some days are spend in the field regardless of the season, balancing that with days in the facility to ensure the work behind the scenes is getting done correctly.
- At our 1 Source Rentals Facility: There’s always something to do when not installing and delivering equipment, so whether its testing units returned from rental or organizing the next order to be delivered, work in the warehouse is always done in preparation for the next order. A Service Lead is expected to both perform the maintenance and repairs as well as distribute the workload to the team with alignment to the team members’ capabilities. The moderate amount of Service Administrative Paperwork is managed while at the facility as well.
- Customer Locations – the 3 main segments we service are Construction Contractors HVAC Service Providers and Property Management Groups. This means you may find yourself on a project site in the morning working outdoors and at an active hotel or retail chain in the afternoon working indoors.
Are you the right person for the job? If you can check the box on any of the below, let’s talk:
- Technology Savvy – with a company provided phone and laptop, a Service Lead must be capable of completing and submitting a variety of work acknowledgments, internal paperwork, forms, texts and emails to do the job. In addition, working with Purchase Orders, Work Orders, Vendor documents, and Rental Documents within our ERP system is part of the daily scope of work for a Service Lead.
- Work Environment – the markets we operate and do business in will put you in a position to work indoors and outdoors, during the day and during the night, on weekdays and weekends…we never know when our customers will lean on us to help solve problems so you can anticipate that every day will be different. You’ll find yourself on ladders, walking most of the day, and having to push/pull/lift up to 50 lbs on a routine basis too.
- HVAC or Rental Equipment Experience – the equipment we rent is some version of a portable heater or portable air conditioner, some large and some small. Any experience with these products is a benefit to you in the role, and we look to learn more about how your experience with these products is relatable to the Service Lead role. If you’re good with diesel engines but not HVAC equipment, that’s perfectly acceptable. If you can diagnose heater systems and repair refrigerant AC systems, but haven’t packed wheel bearings or changed fuel filters before, we can work with that too!
- Delivering Best in Class Service – so much of what we do impacts the customer experience, so effective communication, professional appearance, commitment to excellence, and willing to go the extra mile are key traits that you will have the opportunity to demonstrate day in and day out
- Process Adoption – the work of delivering and setting up equipment is the easy part, doing it the right way to meet our standards through following the right process is a key skill needed to be successful in the role
- A Desire to Grow – Service Leads are the critical link between rental operations and our customer. This role will likely challenge you to adopt new workflow practices, new operating systems unique to temporary and portable HVAC equipment, new ways to think about HVAC equipment in the temporary and portable space and new types of service work in general. A Service Lead must be open to applying their hard skills as a Service Technician in the equipment and HVAC space to embrace the rental equipment business and all that it comes with.
- Driving Experience – whether you drive a pick up truck or cargo van or tow a trailer, SAFE driving is a core skill that is critical to this role. We are seeking someone with a clean driving record and at least 1 year driving experience in a service or company truck, whether related to the rental industry or not, that we can trust to operate company vehicles.
- Lead Role in a Service Based Business – the other team members in the branch don’t technically report to you, so your ability to influence, lead, coach, mentor, advise and develop team mates is a something we want to learn more about! Your teammates will look to you to define what needs to be done, help them when necessary with the actual work, organize and identify resources that are needed, and other “teamwork” type of activities.
What we’d expect from you:
Rental Orders always take priority over any other tasks, so we’d look to you to help balance competing priorities at the branch level to ensure our customers’ needs are addressed first as they come up.
- Work directly with your Regional Manager and the branch Sales Rep to identify rental inventory for orders, often with short lead times, and participate in the assignment of orders to your team.
- Pick and Pull Orders at the branch in preparation for delivery or customer pick up.
- Safely operate box trucks, pick up trucks, delivery vans and bumper pull trailers to delivery HVAC rental equipment to and from customer sites as needed.
- Install, configure, and set up portable HVAC rental equipment such as Spot Coolers, Rental Package Large DX Air Conditioners, Electric Heaters, Fuel Fired Direct and Indirect Fired Heaters, Generators, and specialty trailer mounted Ground Heaters. Don’t worry if some of this equipment is new to you, we will provide training and familarization!
- Provide exceptional customer service by explaining product features, answering questions, and ensuring customer satisfaction during delivery and installation.
- Triage and diagnose problems & service issues with rental equipment to determine how to resolve down equipment in the field.
Back at the branch, the rental cycle workflow also must continue, so ensuring that our fleet of rental equipment is properly serviced and in operating condition is part of what we’d expect:
- Ensure the proper workflows and processes are followed related to the Service Department operations.
- Conduct thorough inspections of HVAC rental equipment for mechanical, electrical, or refrigeration issues prior to installation or service at the end of each rental – we call this the Ready to Rent Process
- Handle the troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of HVAC rental equipment (AC and Heating Equipment) using detailed schematics and technical knowledge, vendor support and your team – this is repairing the rental asset
- Complete detailed documentation of work performed, including service reports, installation checklists, and parts used.
- Maintain an organized warehouse of rental equipment, safely and properly stored
- Follow all safety protocols during transportation, installation, and repair procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
If you’ve done anything along these lines, then you’ve got what it takes:
- Experience working on a small team where what you do each day is focused on filling the order and serving the customer need, not based on your job title. We support our team and everyone chips in to fill the order as needed.
- Working in the rental equipment industry, whether in the HVAC space or other rental segment.
- Spent time behind the wheel driving a Box Truck, Bumper Pull Trailer, Pick Up Truck or similar experience preferred (no CDL’s required)
- Familiarity with HVAC equipment, whether portable/rental packages or permanently installed units (HVAC EPA License NOT required but certainly a benefit)
- Experience with refrigeration systems, HVAC units, Heaters with fuel burners, or similar equipment is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills with a professional attitude in all interactions where you are in direct communication with customers, adapting to their needs to execute the order.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience operating a box truck is advantageous.
- Physical ability to lift and handle heavy objects safely and perform manual tasks required for installation and repairs.
