Position Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Foreign Trade Logistics Specialist to manage and optimize international shipments and foreign exchange logistics across air, sea, and road channels. This role is critical to ensuring smooth cross-border trade, compliance with international customs regulations, and cost-effective transport solutions within the automotive supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- International Shipment Coordination: Plan, coordinate, and monitor inbound and outbound shipments (air, sea, road) across multiple countries, from order confirmation through estimated time of departure (ETD).
- Customs & Trade Compliance: Ensure adherence to South African and international customs regulations (e.g., SARS Customs, HS codes, Incoterms), initiating clearance within 1–2 days of confirmation.
- Foreign Exchange Logistics: Manage documentation and processes related to international trade finance, including letters of credit, exchange control requirements, and compliance with foreign currency transactions.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Collaborate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, customs brokers, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth trade operations.
- Route & Cost Optimization: Analyze and optimize transport routes, lead times, and costs; provide solutions within 24 hours.
- Shipment Tracking: Monitor shipments and resolve delays, damages, or discrepancies within a 24-hour response cycle.
- Duty, VAT & Rebates: Calculate and verify duties, VAT, rebates, exemptions, and foreign exchange impacts; complete all financial calculations within 3 days.
- Documentation Management: Prepare and maintain international trade documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin).
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or related field.
- Experience: 3+ years in foreign trade logistics or international supply chain operations, preferably in the automotive sector.
- Skills:
â—¦ Strong knowledge of customs procedures and international shipping
â—¦ Understanding of foreign exchange regulations and trade finance instruments
â—¦ Proficiency in Excel and logistics/trade software (e.g., Shipshape, SAP)
â—¦ Excellent coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Languages: Fluent in English; Afrikaans or Zulu is an advantage.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to work under pressure.
