Environmental Specialist

The Environmental Specialist is responsible for providing specialist and advisory services to the PCZM Operation and Project to ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation, regulations, and standards to achieve best practices. Responsibilities include input into environmental plans and management; provision of practical advice and guidance related to continuous environmental improvement; compliance auditing, reporting and monitoring. Also to provide specialist support in Mineral right and Water Use License applications and maintenance.

Key responsibilities would include:

• Environmental policy and procedure implementation.
• Maintenance of environmental plans and objectives.
• Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Oversight (Ensure PCZM Operation and Project operate within legal environmental requirements).
• Administration of environmental management systems.
• Monitor compliance with national environmental laws, with environmental authorizations, water use licenses, waste management permits, mining permits, exploration permits and licenses.
• Review PCZM Operation and Project Environmental reports to ensure they meet regulatory conditions.
• Compliance auditing.
• Prepare reports for government regulators and audits.
• Coordinate environmental audits and inspections at PCZM Operation and Project.
• Liaise with government regulators and authorities.
• Ensure PCZM Operation and Project comply with Environmental Management Programmes (EMPrs) and permits.
• Identification of improvement opportunities.
• Legislative reporting.
• Technical interpretation and project coordination.
• Risk assessment and hazard identification.
• Communication of potential environmental issues/hazards etc
• Keeping up to date with environmental legislation.
• Communicating and reporting on environmental issues.
• Monitoring ESG targets and measuring compliance at PCZM Operation and Project.

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree in Environmental Management or a related field equivalent at NQF level 7
• Post graduate degree in Environmental Management or equivalent at NQF level 8 will be advantageous

Experience:

• Minimum of 8 years’ post qualification experience in the environmental field of which at least 5 years has been in the mining industry.
• Proven experience in Water, Land, Air and Environmental Management Systems and reporting.
• Experience in Stakeholder Management will be an inherent requirement of the role.
• Proven experience in dealing with South African government authorities in relation to Environmental Legislation, and the Mine Health and Safety Act will be an inherent requirement of the role.
