Internal Collaboration
- Identifying and researching prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, and selected corporate prospects.
- Building and managing a portfolio of emerging donors capable of supporting SU initiatives.
- Supporting the development of cultivation strategies that move prospects through the relationship cycle: cultivation – solicitation – stewardship.
- Contributing to the growth of the donor pipeline through prospect identification and relationship development.
- Supporting efforts to secure philanthropic gifts and sponsorships aligned with SU’s strategic priorities.
Donor Cultivation and Engagement
- Building relationships with prospective and current donors through meetings, events, and engagement activities.
- Coordinating and participating in donor visits and engagement opportunities.
- Supporting the advancement of prospects through defined relationship stages.
- Maintaining regular communication with donors and prospects to strengthen engagement with the University.
Pipeline and Portfolio Management
- Maintaining and managing an active prospect pipeline aligned with agreed portfolio targets.
- Tracking donor engagements and prospect progression using institutional CRM systems.
- Contributing to portfolio performance through measurable engagement activity and funding proposals.
- Supporting forecasting and reporting processes required for campaign planning.
Proposal Development and Stewardship
- Assisting with the development of funding proposals, concept notes, and supporting documentation.
- Working with academic units and internal stakeholders to gather project information and funding priorities.
- Supporting donor stewardship through reporting and impact communication.
- Assisting with maintaining strong donor relationships through recognition and engagement activities.
Internal Collaboration
- Working closely with colleagues within the Development and Alumni Relations Division to support fundraising initiatives.
- Collaborating with academic faculties, research centres, and other institutional units to identify potential funding opportunities.
- Contributing to a coordinated and consistent institutional approach to donor engagement.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- A relevant NQF 7 qualification (e.g. business administration, marketing, communications, development studies, or a related field).
- At least five years’ relevant experience in fundraising, stakeholder engagement, corporate relations, or business development.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with external stakeholders.
- Experience with proposal development, sponsorship, or fundraising processes.
- Experience with donor stewardship and reporting processes.
- Understanding of the South African philanthropic and corporate giving landscape.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to identify and develop donor opportunities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Results-oriented and comfortable working towards defined targets.
- The ability to conduct oneself in a professional, collaborative, and adaptable manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
