We are seeking a hardworking, energetic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a junior chef or culinary graduate to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mise en Place: Execute daily prep lists, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning fresh produce and proteins.
  • Station Support: Assist the Chef de Partie in assembling menu items during service, ensuring speed and consistency.
  • Stock Management: Assist with receiving deliveries, rotating stock (FIFO), and ensuring all ingredients are stored at the correct temperatures.
  • Hygiene & Maintenance: Keep the cold section, fridges, and prep surfaces spotless. Follow all health and safety protocols strictly.
  • Learning & Growth: Follow instructions closely and show a proactive attitude toward improving your culinary skills and speed.

Requirements & Skills

  • Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen (even as a prep cook or scullery) or a basic culinary qualification is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Basic knife skills and an understanding of different ingredients and food safety.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and work quickly in a high-pressure environment.
  • Attitude: A positive, "can-do" mindset. You should be someone who takes pride in even the smallest tasks, like dicing an onion perfectly.
  • Availability: Must be able to work shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: R32,50 – R40,00 per hour
