Job Description:
Legal Compliance:
1. Ensure compliance with OHS Act and Construction Regulations
2. Assist in developing and implementing the project Health and Safety Plan as per Health and Safety Specifications
3. Ensure all statutory appointments are in place and valid
4. Maintain updated Legal Registers and Mandatory Notices
Risk Management:
1. Conduct Baseline and Task-Specific Risk Assessments
2. Review, Approve and work in conjunction with Artisans to ensure Method Statements are accurate
3. Identify Hazards and recommend Control Measures
4. Monitor High-Risk Activities
Site Inspections and Monitoring:
1. Conduct daily/weekly/monthly Safety Inspections
2. Monitor Subcontractor Safety Compliance
3. Ensure proper use and inspection of procuring the correct PPE
4. Stop unsafe work where necessary
5. Develop, maintain and implement Health and Safety Management System
Incident Management:
1. Investigate Incidents and Near-Misses
2. Compile/Review Incident Reports
3. Recommend Corrective and Preventative Actions
4. Maintain Incident Register
Training and Communication:
1. Conduct Safety Inductions
2. Facilitate Toolbox Talks
3. Provide ongoing Safety Awareness Training
4. Promote a positive Safety Culture on sites
Administration and Reporting:
1. Compile and Maintain the Construction Health and Safety File
2. Keep records of Inspections, Training and Incidents
3. Submit weekly/monthly Safety Reports to management
4. Liaise with Departments when required
5. Serve as ad-hoc member on Health and Safety Committee on site and office-based
Minimum Requirements:
1. National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
2. SAMTRAC or similar safety qualifications
3. SACPCMP (must have a valid SACPCMP Candidacy Number)
4. Valid Driver’s License
5. 3-5 years’ Construction Site Safety experience
6. Knowledge of OHSA and Construction Regulations
7. Valid First Aid Certificate Training
8. Valid Incident Investigation Training
9. Valid Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Training
10. Good Report Writing Skills
11. Computer Literacy (MS Office)
12. Problem Solving Ability
