Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Local Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently within Erie and the surrounding area. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and customer service, as well as the ability to handle a fast-paced work environment. Candidate must be able to move heavy, loaded drums and rolling carts of recyclable metals.
Responsibilities
- Operate commercial vehicles, mainly stakebody and some dry van; putting trailers in and out of the bay.
- Load and unload cargo safely and efficiently, ensuring proper handling of goods.
- Track the numbers of the equipment picked up and dropped off at each customer location using the dispatch program on the company phone.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety and compliance.
- Communicate effectively with dispatcher and customers regarding delivery status and customer needs.
- Handle any issues or delays that may arise during transportation in a professional manner.
- Maneuver loaded drums and rolling carts of recyclable metals. In addition to driving, it is a labor intensive position.
Skills
- Ability to load and unload cargo safely, with attention to detail; keeping track of what came from which customer as there are multi-stop runs.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
- Forklift experience a plus.
