Analytics Engineer Jobs in Kuils River at TRADEON
Overall Purpose of the Position:
To design, build, and maintain TradeOn’s core data pipelines and data models, integrating key operational systems into a reliable, automated data layer that enables accurate reporting, insights and decision‑making across the business. This role is hands‑on and execution‑focused, responsible for turning fragmented data into a single, trusted source of truth.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Data Integration & Pipelines
- Building and maintaining automated data pipelines from:
o POS (GAAP)
o Finance & Payroll (Sage Evolution)
o Banking and other operational systems
- Designing reliable ingestion processes (batch or near real time where appropriate)
- Reducing manual data handling and spreadsheet based processes
Data Modelling & Architecture
- Designing a clean, scalable data model suitable for reporting and analytics
- Establishing a central data layer that supports Power BI and future analytics
- Ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and traceability across systems
Reporting Enablement
- Enabling Power BI by providing:
o Well structured datasets
o Documented metrics
o Consistent definitions
- Partner with Finance, Ops, and HR to ensure data reflects business reality
Automation & Reliability
- Automating recurring data refreshes and reconciliations
- Implementing monitoring and basic data quality checks
- Proactively identifying and resolving data issues before they reach user
Data Governance
- Defining data standards, naming conventions, and ownership
- Ensuring responsible handling of sensitive information (POPIA‑aware)
- Documenting pipelines and models for continuity
Ideal Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
- 4–8 years in a hands‑on data engineering or analytics engineering role
- Has personally built, maintained, and repaired production data pipelines in environments with inconsistent and unreliable source systems
- Strong SQL skills including designing, transforming and optimizing production-grade queries
- Proven experience integrating multiple operational systems into a central data layer (e.g. POS, finance, payroll, ERP or similar)experience working with messy, real‑world operational data
- Handson experience using cloud data platforms to design and run ETL pipelines
- Experience enabling BI and reporting tools (Power BI preferred) by delivering well-structured, analytics-ready datasets
