Position Overview
Lano Equipment is looking for a reliable and organized Yard Inventory Specialist to manage our equipment yard. This position is the main link for our yard operations. You will be responsible for keeping the yard safe, neat, and highly organized, while making sure we know exactly where every piece of equipment is. In this role, you will track a large variety of small and large construction machines, as well as attachments. This is an active, fast-paced outdoor job that requires someone who can stay organized while working outside.
As a Yard Attendant, you will enforce safety rules, move materials carefully, and park equipment in the correct spots so everything runs smoothly. The right person for this job pays close attention to details and works well with our sales, service, and transport teams to make sure machines are ready when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control & Asset Tracking
- Computer Tracking: Use the company’s computer system to accurately log and track where machines and attachments are moved.
- Counting Stock: Regularly count the equipment in the yard to make sure the physical machines match what is listed in the computer system.
- Receiving New Machinery: Check in new equipment shipments and move them to the right storage area.
- Setup: Arrange the yard layout carefully so it is easy to find and drive machines out when needed.
- Fixing Mistakes: Look into and correct any mistakes or missing information in the inventory logs.
Yard Operations & Fleet Logistics
- Working with Teams: Talk with the service department manager to know which machines are being fixed and when they will be ready.
- Moving Machines: Safely drive and park heavy construction machinery around the yard to help the sales and delivery teams.
- Loading and Unloading: Help truck drivers safely load and unload heavy equipment from trailers and flatbeds.
Safety, Compliance & Equipment Operation
- Following Safety Rules: Strictly follow all company safety policies and official government safety laws (OSHA).
- Finding Hazards: Check the yard regularly to find and fix any dangers, like blocked walkways or unsafe structures.
- Protecting Property: Store all heavy machines and parts securely so they do not fall, get damaged, or hurt anyone.
- Driving Machinery: Safely and skillfully drive yard equipment like large forklifts, skid steers, and track loaders.
Reporting & Technical Documentation
- Keeping Records: Write down clear, accurate records of every machine that enters, leaves, or moves around the yard.
- Manager Updates: Give clear reports to the store managers about what equipment is available.
Helping Customers
- Finding Tools Fast: Help customers and contractors quickly locate the specific equipment or materials they came to pick up.
- Professional Attitude: Be polite, helpful, and professional with customers, truck drivers, and coworkers.
- Clean Yard: Keep the front areas of the yard clean and neat so the business looks welcoming to buyers.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience & Tracking Skills
- Past Work: Past experience working in an equipment yard, a warehouse, or a shipping depot is highly preferred.
- Organization: The ability to pay close attention to details like machine serial numbers and model types.
- Safety Mindset: A strong commitment to working safely and following all operational rules.
Work Habits & Machine Driving
- Working Alone: The ability to do your job well without someone constantly watching over you, while still working well with the rest of the team.
- Problem Solving: Good communication skills and the ability to quickly solve scheduling or inventory problems.
- Forklift Skills: Having an official forklift driving certificate, or being willing to take the company training class to get one.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting Ability: The physical strength to regularly lift and carry parts or tools weighing up to 50 pounds on your own.
- Stamina: The ability to stand, walk on uneven dirt ground, bend down, and work on your feet all day.
- Working Outdoors: Being completely comfortable working outside in all types of weather, including heat, rain, and snow.
