Position: Workshop Manager (Toolroom)
A well-established and reputable industrial manufacturing company based on the West Rand is seeking an experienced Toolroom Workshop Manager to take full responsibility for the performance, efficiency, and output of their toolroom operations. This is a critical leadership role suited to a technically strong professional with a proven ability to manage teams, optimize processes, and ensure high-quality tooling delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the toolroom workshop
- Manage and lead a team of toolmakers, machinists, and technicians
- Ensure timely manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures
- Implement and maintain preventative maintenance systems for tooling
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce downtime
- Monitor production schedules and align toolroom output with operational demands
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, health & safety regulations, and company policies
- Manage budgets, costs, and resource allocation within the toolroom
- Liaise with engineering, production, and quality departments to support business objectives
Requirements:
- Trade Test qualification (Toolmaker or relevant discipline)
- Proven experience in a toolroom environment within manufacturing
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role
- Strong technical knowledge of machining processes, tooling design, and maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Experience with CNC machines and toolroom equipment
Advantageous:
- Experience in high-volume or precision manufacturing environments
- Exposure to CAD/CAM systems
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles
