Purpose of the Role

The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all fleet maintenance operations within the workshop, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, compliance with safety standards, and optimal performance of technicians and resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and implement fleet maintenance activities within the workshop
  • Monitor daily workshop operations and work progress to ensure efficiency and productivity
  • Ensure all vehicle breakdowns are attended to promptly and effectively
  • Implement and manage preventative maintenance schedules
  • Conduct daily quality inspections and periodic spot checks to ensure high standards and minimize repeat work
  • Manage stock levels, including the procurement and replacement of parts, tools, and equipment
  • Ensure proper care, storage, and inventory control of workshop tools and special equipment
  • Conduct monthly inspections of workshop tools and technician equipment
  • Ensure annual load testing of equipment is completed
  • Supervise and manage the performance of artisans, technicians, and support staff
  • Allocate work fairly among technicians and monitor repair progress throughout the day
  • Provide technical support and assist in developing technician skills and competencies
  • Ensure all employees receive appropriate training, including manufacturer-specific training
  • Manage and control job cards, ensuring accurate completion and timely closure
  • Maintain proper documentation and ensure all records are processed correctly
  • Ensure full compliance with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) procedures
  • Conduct toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture within the workshop
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized working environment
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty and policy procedures
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through quality service and follow-up processes
  • Monitor workshop conditions and report any issues relating to safety, equipment, or operations
  • Stay updated on new tools and equipment and recommend improvements where necessary
  • Act as a stand-in for the Depot Manager when required
  • Attend management meetings and contribute to operational planning
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive working environment
  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience

  • Red Seal Qualification: Petrol or Diesel Mechanic
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a petrol or diesel workshop or Workshop Technician role
  • Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Strong experience in diagnosing vehicle faults and troubleshooting mechanical issues

Pay: Up to R39 697,00 per month
