Warehouse assistant

We are looking for a warehousing, receiving and dispatching assistant to oversee the flow of goods into and out of our facility. Key responsibilities include receiving, inspecting, storing, managing, and dispatching products, while maintaining accurate inventory records.

Job Purpose:

Ensures inventory accuracy, efficient stock rotation (FIFO/FEFO), timely receiving and dispatch of materials and finished goods and high safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Receiving (Inbound):

  • Inspecting and Verifying: Inspect shipments for damage and verify quantities against packing slips, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Inventory Recording: Use software to record received stock into the system.
  • Offloading and Sorting: Safely operate forklifts or pallet jacks to unload vehicles and sort items for storage.
  • Discrepancy Management: Report and document damages, shortages, or discrepancies to supervisors or procurement teams.
  • Put-away: Store goods in designated locations, adhering to warehouse organization plans.

Dispatch (Outbound):

  • Order Preparation: Prepare orders efficiently for dispatch.
  • Documentation: Verify waybills, delivery notes, and invoices for courier collection or customer delivery.
  • Loading: Verify loads and load trucks, ensuring optimal load balance and adherence to safety protocols (including Hazmat if applicable).
  • Quality Control: Ensure goods are in good condition and match invoice requirements before release.

Warehouse Management & Operations:

  • Inventory Control: Perform regular cycle counts and assist with month-end stock takes.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain clean, safe, and organized storage and dock areas (GMP standards).
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate machinery (forklifts, pallet jacks, wrappers).
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations, ensuring PPE is used correctly.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: National Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2–4+ years in warehouse receiving, dispatch, or inventory management.
  • Equipment: Valid Forklift License (FLT) is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail for inventory accuracy.
  • Basic math skills for counting and weighing goods.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Physical strength to lift heavy items (approx. 25kg).
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment: Fast-paced warehouse setting
