The Practice
Old Town Psychology is a private-pay boutique psychology practice on King Street, in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. We provide individual, couples, and family psychotherapy alongside neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessment, serving clients across Northern Virginia, the District, and the broader DMV.
Our reputation has been built quietly and deliberately. Referrals flow consistently from concierge pediatricians and primary-care physicians, the region’s leading independent schools, educational consultants, attorneys, psychiatrists, and allied medical providers — alongside a steady volume of word-of-mouth referrals from current and former clients. Caseloads fill quickly, and the practice continues to grow.
We are expanding our clinical team and seeking a licensed therapist who is exceptional at the work, who values being part of a serious clinical community, and who is ready for a long-term professional home.
The Role
This is a full-time, in-person clinical position focused on individual and couples therapy. The clinician we hire will carry a sustainable caseload built collaboratively with practice leadership, supported end-to-end by our administrative and intake team. Telehealth flexibility is available where clinically appropriate, but this is fundamentally an in-person seat in a thoughtfully designed office.
Multiple evenings of weekly availability are strongly preferred. Our clients — professionals, parents, dual-career couples — frequently need after-hours access, and clinicians with evening availability tend to fill quickly and stay full.
What You Can Expect
— A private, well-appointed office on King Street. Your own dedicated space — not a hot desk, not a shared room — in one of the most walkable neighborhoods in the region, steps from the waterfront.
— A consistent, high-quality referral pipeline. Our intake team converts inbound interest into scheduled clients. New clinicians typically reach a full caseload within their first months.
— Administrative infrastructure that disappears into the background. Scheduling, intake, billing, claims, EHR, credentialing support — handled. You see clients, write notes, and go home.
— A genuinely collaborative clinical culture. Regular case consultation, peer support, and colleagues who care about doing the work well — without productivity-metric pressure or corporate scaffolding.
— Room to develop a clinical identity. Clinicians interested in cultivating a couples specialty, launching a group, teaching, or eventually moving toward leadership or supervision will find real runway here.
Compensation
This position is a salaried W-2 role with a tiered, productivity-linked compensation structure that rewards clinicians for building and retaining a strong caseload. Base salary is enhanced by per-session compensation that scales with weekly clinical volume, reaching up to $105 per session at the top tier.
Clinicians who maintain a caseload of more than 23 client sessions per week earn at or above $100,000 annually. Compensation scales with sustained clinical engagement; the structure is designed so that the clinicians who do the work consistently are the ones who benefit most from it.
Beyond cash compensation, the practice offers a benefits package designed to be best-in-class for an independent practice of our size:
— Employer-contributed health and dental insurance
— 401(k) plan with employer participation
— Generous paid time off, paid holidays, and protected administrative time
— Continuing-education and licensure-renewal reimbursement
— Malpractice coverage support and professional development funding
— Employer-paid payroll taxes — no self-employment tax burden
Who We Are Looking For
— Active, unrestricted Virginia licensure as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW (required). Reciprocal licensure in Maryland and/or the District of Columbia is welcomed.
— Demonstrated clinical experience with both individuals and couples. Formal training in Gottman, EFT, Imago, the Developmental Model, or comparable couples frameworks is a meaningful plus.
— A strong clinical foundation and good professional judgment. You write thoughtful notes, hold a clear case formulation, and bring the kind of presence that helps clients settle in quickly.
— Multiple evenings of weekly availability to accommodate working professionals and couples — strongly preferred.
— A long-term orientation. We are building a clinical home — not filling a slot. Candidates who want to grow with the practice over years will find that posture reciprocated.
