We are looking to recruit an Underwriter for our AeroClassics Team.


Role Objectives:

To proactively manage and grow a classic and collectible car portfolio, including growing of broker relationships, involvement in the classic and collectible car community and attendance at relevant events. The role is responsible for the effective marketing, underwriting, and sale of iTOO Classic and Collectible Car insurance products, ensuring commercially sound risk assessment and superior broker service. The incumbent will also be accountable for the accurate and timeous processing of policy amendments and the issuance of revised policy schedules, maintaining high standards of operational excellence, compliance, and turnaround times.


Key Responsibilities

  • Sales & Premium Performance: Consistently achieve agreed sales, written premium, and revenue targets through proactive underwriting, effective product positioning, and disciplined pipeline management.
  • Quote Productivity & Quality: Achieve and maintain targeted quote ratios by efficiently converting inbound and outbound enquiries into accurate, competitive, and compliant insurance quotations.
  • Conversion Optimisation: Maximise conversion ratios from quoted risks to bound policies in line with agreed performance benchmarks, through effective follow-up, objection handling, and solution-driven engagement.
  • Broker Engagement & Quoting Support: Proactively contact and engage Broker network to understand their needs and provide tailored quotations, with a specific focus on Classic Car risks.
  • Classic and Collectible Car Community Engagement: Proactively and aligned to iTOO initiatives engage and establish relationships in the classic and collectible car community, to ensure brand awareness, market understanding, understanding of the collectors needs and assist in product development to ensure market leading and collector requirement aligned classic and collectible car offerings.
  • Comparative Analysis: Conduct thorough comparisons between proposed quotations and existing insurance policies to ensure competitive positioning, enhanced cover, and clear value propositions for clients.
  • Pipeline & Lead Management: Diligently manage all leads and quotations through continuous and structured follow-up to drive closure, reduce fallout, and improve overall turnaround times.
  • Feedback & Data Accuracy: Accurately capture, analyse, and record reasons for accepted, declined, or lost leads and quotes to support reporting, insights, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Brand & Professional Representation: Build, uphold, and promote a strong, positive, and professional image of iTOO through consistent, high-quality client interactions and service excellence.
  • Inbound Sales Handling: Professionally manage all enquiries relating to quotations, ensuring responsiveness, knowledge accuracy, and compliance at all times.
  • System & CRM Discipline: Accurately update and maintain all call outcomes, underwriting decisions, and follow-up actions on internal systems to ensure effective pipeline tracking and audit readiness.
  • Industry & Product Knowledge: Stay abreast of industry developments, regulatory changes, and market trends through continuous self-learning to enhance underwriting judgement and client advisory capability.
  • Regulatory & FAIS Compliance: Ensure ongoing compliance with FAIS Fit and Proper requirements, internal underwriting guidelines, and governance standards, always maintaining required qualifications and disclosures.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of and passion for classic and collectible cars
  • Financial Services environment including features, benefits and value propositions of products & services.
  • General insurance practices and procedures.
  • The Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS)
  • Administration processes and procedures pertaining to Insurance transactions.
  • Broker relationship management and service principles.
  • iTOO products and services.
  • Competitor product offerings/ channels/ operational and marketing tactics would be advantageous.

Educational Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • FAIS recognised qualification
  • RE5
  • 5 Years Financial Services experience (at least 3 years in Short-Term Insurance)
  • 2 Years CRM (Salesforce) experience advantageous
