Design Factory is a growing design and production studio focused on creating high-quality custom furniture, kitchens, wardrobes, millwork, lighting pieces, and interior product solutions. We are looking for a highly motivated and technically minded designer to join our team and help bridge the gap between design, production, and client coordination. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both creative thinking and technical execution — someone who understands how beautiful ideas become real products.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Technical Project Designer will coordinate between clients, interior designers, factory teams, and management to ensure projects are properly detailed, communicated, and executed from concept through production. The ideal candidate should have experience within a furniture, joinery, millwork, kitchen, wardrobe, or manufacturing environment and should be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously. This is a hybrid role based in Lagos, requiring both remote work and physical presence at the factory/site/office when needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Liaise directly with clients regarding project requirements, updates, timelines, and approvals
- Coordinate with interior designers, architects, consultants, and production teams on ongoing projects
- Translate design concepts into technical production drawings and specifications
- Prepare detailed drawings for furniture, kitchens, wardrobes, joinery, lighting pieces, and custom millwork
- Produce detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and production-ready technical documentation for factory execution
- Work closely with factory teams and fabricators to ensure accurate execution
- Attend site visits, measurements, installations, and project meetings where required
- Support the Managing Director with project coordination and technical follow-through
- Review materials, finishes, hardware, and production methods for suitability and quality
- Ensure projects are delivered according to approved drawings, timelines, and production standards
- Assist with design development, prototyping, and product refinement
- Maintain organized documentation of drawings, revisions, and production details
- Help identify production issues early and contribute practical solutions
REQUIREMENTS
- Background in Interior Design, Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Architecture, Product Design, or a related field
- Minimum of 3–5 years experience in furniture production, joinery, millwork, kitchens, wardrobes, or factory-based design environments
- Strong understanding of technical detailing and production processes
- Experience working in or closely with a factory/manufacturing environment is highly preferred
- Ability to read and produce detailed technical drawings and fabrication documentation
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative
- Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines
- Passion for design, craftsmanship, materials, and fabrication
TECHNICAL SOFTWARE PROFICIENCY
Experience with one or more of the following software platforms is required:
• AutoCAD
• SketchUp
• Mozaik
• Cabinet Vision
• Rhino
• SolidWorks
• Fusion 360
• Or similar furniture/joinery production software
Experience preparing CNC-ready drawings and production documentation is highly preferred.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Understanding of lighting/product fabrication is a plus
• Experience with CNC production workflows is an advantage
• Knowledge of furniture hardware, fittings, and materials
• Basic project management experience
• Experience coordinating artisans, installers, or production teams
