Supervisor IT Infrastructure Services Jobs in Bellville at Cape Peninsula University of Technology
Lead a team responsible for the administration, governance, and optimization of Microsoft 365 (with a strong emphasis on A5 licensing), backend tenant operations, and critical university application ecosystems (student information systems, LMS, research/admin platforms). Ensure secure, reliable service delivery aligned to cybersecurity best practices and institutional policies. Drive continuous improvement, incident resolution, and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems/Computer Science/Computer Systems Engineering or BTech in Information Technology
- At least five (5) years’ experience in Microsoft 365/Office 365 administration, including A5 licensing management, of which two (2) years in a team leadership role
- Experience in supporting higher education or large enterprise applications (LMS)
- Microsoft 365 admin center, Exchange/SharePoint/Teams admin, Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, PowerShell for M365 and Graph API basics
- Licensing models (A1/A3/A5) with cost/feature implications; group-based licensing; governance
- Security: Conditional Access, MFA, DLP, Defender for Office 365, Identity Protection, ATP, audited logging
- Familiarity with higher education systems (e.g., PeopleSoft/Banner/SITS; Moodle/Canvas/Blackboard; student portals)
- ITSM tools (ManageEngine or equivalent), frameworks (ITIL v3/v4) and, reporting (Power BI advantageous)
- Defender, Purview (DLP/Compliance), Sentinel exposure advantageous
- Administer Microsoft 365 tenant (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Azure AD/Microsoft Entra ID, Intune)
- Oversee A5 licensing assignments, lifecycle management, cost optimization, and compliance (audits, true-ups)
- Implement and maintain security baselines (MFA/conditional access, DLP, Safe Links/Attachments, Defender suite)
- Manage service configurations, feature rollouts, governance policies, and change control
- Oversee operational support for core academic and administrative systems (e.g. LMS, timetabling, admissions, research systems)
- Coordinate incident, problem, and request fulfilment processes with vendors and internal teams
- Ensure integrations with Microsoft 365 services are stable, secure, and performant
- Enforce and monitor security posture: identity/access management, privileged access controls, data classification & protection
- Collaborate with InfoSec on risk assessments, vulnerability remediation, and incident response
- Maintain documentation, SOPs, and evidence for internal/external audits and regulatory obligations (e.g., POPIA)
- Supervise and mentor a team; conduct performance reviews, skills development
- Own SLAs/OLAs, service KPIs, and customer satisfaction metrics; lead problem management and root cause analysis
- Plan capacity, on-call rotations, and escalation processes. Champion a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Lead and coordinate M365, endpoint, and application enhancement projects (rollouts, migrations, integrations)
- Engage faculties, departments, and administrative units to understand needs and prioritise work
- Produce reports, dashboards, and recommendations for leadership
- Strong expertise in Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive) including user administration, policies, and compliance
- Ability to manage and support enterprise applications, ensuring availability, reliability, and alignment with business needs
- Proven capability to lead complex incident resolution, root cause analysis, and escalation management of Microsoft 365 and related systems
- Understanding of IT service management (ITIL principles), including incident, problem, and change management processes
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and develop support staff, allocate workload, and drive performance
- Strong customer focus with the ability to engage users, translate technical issues, and ensure service excellence
- Working knowledge of infrastructure components (AD/Entra ID, networking, devices) and how they integrate with Microsoft 365 services
- Understanding of Microsoft 365 security, identity management, data protection, and governance controls
- Ability to coordinate system changes, updates, and deployments with minimal disruption to services
- Strong skills in maintaining documentation, reporting, and driving process improvements and service optimisation
