About the Role

MGM Muthu Hotels is looking for an experienced and dynamic Supermarket Manager – Operations to oversee the end-to-end management of supermarket operations within our hospitality environment in Tanzania. This role is critical in ensuring efficient store operations, optimal inventory management, excellent customer service, and strong financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Store Operations Management
  • Oversee daily supermarket operations, ensuring smooth functioning across all departments.
  • Maintain high standards of store presentation, cleanliness, and product availability.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety, and local regulations.
  • Inventory & Supply Chain
  • Manage inventory levels, stock replenishment, and demand forecasting.
  • Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Minimize wastage, shrinkage, and stock discrepancies.
  • Sales & Financial Performance
  • Drive sales growth and profitability through effective merchandising and promotions.
  • Monitor key financial metrics including revenue, margins, and operational costs.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and performance reports.
  • Customer Experience
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service standards.
  • Handle customer queries, feedback, and escalations effectively.
  • Implement initiatives to enhance customer engagement and loyalty.
  • Team Leadership
  • Recruit, train, and supervise store staff to ensure high performance.
  • Create staff schedules, manage attendance, and oversee daily task allocation.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms to ensure cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including procurement, finance, and hotel operations.

Key Requirements

  • 6–10 years of experience in supermarket/retail operations, with at least 2–3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, inventory control, and merchandising.
  • Experience in managing teams and driving store performance.
  • Good financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
  • Experience in hospitality-linked retail or remote locations will be an advantage.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field preferred.
