SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position consists performing different types of applications to turf as well as trees and ornamentals in landscaped areas. Spray Technician are to determine the needs and deficiencies of both turf and plant material. The Technician needs to be knowledgeable about the products and rates that need to be applied to enhance the overall look of turf and plant material. The knowledge of State and Federal laws/regulations is a must to determine what products need to be used. Time management and organizational skills is a must to complete daily tasks in a timely manner.
ROLE + RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead, direct, and participate in the work of a Spray Technician; efficiently and effectively prioritize and organize work according to direction of department Manager
· Perform tasks such as mixing chemicals, hand spraying from a hose, operating spray equipment, operating a spreader, and use of a backpack sprayer.
· Understand of yearly rates per product and per application allowed by the State
· Maintain, inspect, and safely operate equipment such as Z Max Sprayer, 200-gallon tank sprayer, and back pack sprayer
· Evaluate the condition and type of turf and plant material to determine the correct application needed to enhance overall vigor.
· Assess weather conditions to ensure optimal dispersal and absorption.
· Ensure strict adherence by self and crew to safety procedures.
· Communicate with Department Manager of any damages to property that were noticed or may have been caused during performing operations
· Communicate crew needs, deficiencies or concerns to Department Manager
· Ensure daily timesheets are entered accurately and completely as directed by supervisor
· Coach and train new employees
· Work in a multicultural work place with diverse customers, emphasizing communication for cooperation and collaboration
· Other duties as assigned
LICENSES + CERTIFICATIONS
· Driver License
· Pesticide Commercial Applicator License-Strongly Preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
· Knowledge of products (i.e. Fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, etc.)
· Ability to operate vehicles and powered equipment associated with product applications
· Exceptional customer service skills towards all existing, potential, internal and external clients
· Must be pro-active, able to build a solid relationship with clients, customers and vendors
· Operational efficiency
PHYSICAL DEMANDS (all required to be done for up to 10 hours or more a day):
Capable of walking properties on a daily basis to perform inspections of turf and ornamentals. While performing the essential duties of the job, the position requires physical abilities such as heavy lifting, pushing and pulling of up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity, wrist-finger movement, digging using a shovel. In addition, working conditions include inadequate lighting, restricted movement, dirty environment, air contamination, extreme temperatures and weather conditions, intense noise, hazardous materials, or lifting or carrying heavy objects. The employee must be physically coherent and aware at all times especially when dealing with heavy machinery, equipment or while driving.
Pay: $19.00 – $21.00 per hour
