Job Purpose
This role is responsible to administer compliance with all applicable rules and laws/regulations, corporate governance regulations and that company policies and procedures to SAA and its subsidiaries. This role provides services to SAA and its subsidiaries (“SAA Group”) as a shared function.
The role is to support the Group Compliance Programme, which functions as an independent and objective function by ensuring that compliance risks are identified, assessed, monitored and reported in accordance with the approved governance process within SAA Group.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support the design of the department and implement strategy within Risk and Compliance
- Support the implementation of the department’s strategy
- Recommends and standardises policies, processes and systems to support implementation of the strategy
- Provide training on regulatory and governance requirements
- Contribute to department budget and spend within compliance requirements
- Provide recommendations to actively support cost containment
- Benchmarking and market standards etc.
- Identify and drive initiatives to support cost containment in Risk & Compliance and the SAA Group
- Develop and implement compliance programme
- Assist in the alignment of the compliance programme to the company’s strategy
- Ensure company policies are aligned with industry codes, policies and supervisory codes, international standards and SA legal environment
- Utilises and optimises all resources in area of responsibility
- Optimise technology to enhance internal and external customer expectations
- Ensure all processes implemented to deliver customer value
- Drive customer centricity within areas of control
- Provide support in effective internal and external stakeholder relationships through appropriate relationship building and networking
- Enforce Governance and Compliance Management policies, processes and systems
- Implement programmes and projects to contribute to the optimisation of Risk & Compliance
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Legal, Internal Audit, HR, etc) to direct compliance issues appropriate to existing channels for recommendation to enforce compliance
- Consult with Legal department as needed to resolve legal compliance issues
- Assist with the development/ implementation of corrective action plans for resolution of non-compliance issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar in the future
- Assist business units in embedding compliance in the business units through training and alignment of processes and procedures to regulatory requirements
- Assist in the awareness and training on the prevention of irregular and wasteful expenditure and other regulatory non-compliance requirements
- Advise and ensure that the Company complies with applicable law as identified in the SAA Group’s Regulatory Universe document
- Develop, initiate, maintain and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance programme and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct
- Monitor the implementation of the Compliance programme and regulate activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness
- Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and Standards of Conduct by evaluating and assisting business units in putting control measures in place
- Collaborate with staff to identify and manage regulatory risk within your area of responsibility
- Develop and ensure implementation of governance policies
- Provide secretariat support to the compliance forum and any other governance committee
- Monitor regular and timeous reporting of information to line management and other key stakeholders
- Adhere to all SAA policies and procedures
- Attend regular meetings and feedback sessions
- Support the SAA Group on any legal instruction to support the SAA Group Strategy
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Law/Auditing or Accounting or related field at NQF level 7 specialising in Law or Postgraduate Diploma in Compliance
- At least 3 – 5 years’ experience based on a combined experience in compliance
- Certificate in compliance management/CPrac (Compliance Practitioner) will be an added advantage
- Experience in BBBEE implementation will be an added advantage
- Experience in the aviation industry will be an added advantage
- Experience in Policy Governance Training/Governance Communication
