Job Description / Responsibilities

The Old Village Store is looking for a SOUS CHEF to help lead our culinary program. We are looking for a seasoned professional who can help us deliver quality, consistent, and intentional food to our community through our made-to-order menu (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and our grab-and-go program. The SOUS CHEF will work with the HEAD CHEF to oversee all kitchen operations, focus on safety compliance, food quality and consistency, inventory management, costing, and staff management. This roles requires strong leadership skills, technical culinary skills, and a strong attention to administrative details (ranging from costing to ordering to inventory management).

  • Maintain team quality and consistency through constant communication, supervision, and example
  • Oversee the output of consistent, intentional food that supports the Old Village Store’s mission
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and efficient costing of all food production
  • Coordinate staff schedule
  • Plan seasonal menus and develop recipes with ownership
  • Communicate and build relationships with vendors (including local farmers and fishermen)
  • Ability to work 40+ hours per week

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Certified Food Manager (ServSafe).
  • Technical knowledge and experience in commercial kitchen with a mastery of all stations.
  • Maintain calm demeanor in fast-paced environment and an ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to manage a kitchen team and lead through kindness, clear direction, education, and empowerment.
  • Able to stand for long periods, work in high temperature, and lift 50 pounds.
  • Work irregular hours (early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff and ensure productive and positive environment.
  • Execute a high standard of consistency and quality.
  • No ego.

Compensation:

  • $50,000 – $70,000
  • Paid time off

Pay: $50,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
