Main Purpose of the Role:
The Shift Controller is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all plant operations during their assigned shift to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous production. This includes managing plant personnel, monitoring process performance, addressing operational issues, and ensuring full compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Shift Supervision: Lead and coordinate all plant activities during the assigned shift to ensure smooth operations.
- Operational Monitoring: Monitor production processes, equipment, and product quality; conduct inspections and ensure adherence to set parameters.
- Troubleshooting: Identify, report, and resolve plant or equipment issues promptly in coordination with maintenance teams.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce SHEQ policies and ensure that all safety, environmental, and quality requirements are met at all times.
- Production Management: Maintain accurate production records, stock counts, and ensure correct loading and dispatch of finished products.
- Communication & Coordination: Facilitate shift handovers and ensure effective communication with other shifts and departments.
- Leadership: Supervise and mentor plant operators and shift staff, fostering teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to process optimisation, cost efficiency, and performance improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Matric / National Senior Certificate (required).
- Technical Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (advantageous).
- At least 5 years’ experience in a production or plant operations environment, preferably in manufacturing or industrial processing.
- Proven experience in supervisory or shift leadership roles.

- Sound understanding of plant processes, safety, and environmental standards.
- Good numerical and reporting skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a 12-hour shift system.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Office and plant production areas.
- Shift Work: Required (12-hour rotational shifts).
- Overtime: May be required on an ad-hoc basis.
