Rapid Spill Response is a specialist industrial and environmental response company providing emergency spill response, specialised industrial cleaning, hazardous waste management, tank and silo cleaning, industrial vacuum services, asbestos stripping and safe disposal, environmental rehabilitation and related compliance support.
Our clients operate in high-risk industrial environments where safety, environmental compliance, legal control, client SHE files, audit evidence and operational readiness are critical.
We are looking for a strong, practical and disciplined SHEQT Manager to take ownership of our Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and Training function.
Purpose of the Role
The SHEQT Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the company’s SHEQT systems are legally compliant, properly implemented, operationally effective and audit-ready.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can work with operations, supervisors, site teams, clients and management to ensure that high-risk work is controlled before, during and after execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining and controlling the company’s Integrated Management System, including document control, registers, procedures, revision control and review schedules.
- Managing legal compliance, legal registers, appointments, permits, licences, audits, and compliance evidence.
- Preparing, maintaining and updating client SHE files and contractor compliance platform requirements.
- Managing risk assessments, HIRAs, safe work procedures, permits to work and environmental aspect/impact controls.
- Controlling training records, induction records, competency assessments, refresher training and expiry trackers.
- Ensuring toolbox talks, PPE compliance, contractor controls and operational SHE requirements are implemented.
- Monitoring vehicle, plant and equipment SHE compliance, including inspections, maintenance records, calibration certificates and defect escalation.
- Managing incident and near-miss reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions and trend reviews.
- Controlling hazardous waste records, waste manifests, disposal certificates, spill records and environmental compliance evidence.
- Ensuring emergency preparedness, emergency equipment inspections, emergency drills and response team readiness.
- Managing internal audits, corrective action registers, CAPA tracking, management review inputs and continual improvement actions.
Formal Qualifications Required
The preferred candidate should have one or more of the following formal qualifications:
- National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Quality Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, NADSAM or equivalent recognised SHEQ qualification.
- ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 internal auditor or implementation training.
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis training.
- HIRA / risk assessment training.
- Legal liability or OHS Act training.
Minimum Qualification
Minimum: SAMTRAC / NADSAM / NEBOSH / National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent SHEQ qualification, with strong practical experience.
Preferred: National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Health, Environmental Management, Quality Management or similar, plus ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 auditor training.

Minimum Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of South African SHEQ legislation, including the OHS Act.
- Practical experience in SHEQ / SHEQT management.
- Experience maintaining SHE files, registers, audit records and compliance evidence.
- Ability to investigate incidents properly and drive corrective actions to close-out.
- Strong document control and administrative discipline.
- Good Excel, Word and reporting ability.
- Valid driver’s licence.
