SUMMARY:
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an Underground Mining team in South Africa. In this role, you will support the delivery of complex mining projects, applying your technical expertise across all project stages—from scoping and feasibility studies to on‑site mine assessments.
POSITION INFO:
You will play a key role in ensuring high‑quality, efficient project delivery, while building strong client relationships and contributing to ongoing business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver mechanical engineering work across underground mining projects
- Manage projects to ensure delivery within scope, time, budget, and quality requirements
- Prepare high‑quality technical reports across all project phases
- Act as the Project Manager or Technical Lead when required
- Conduct peer reviews and provide technical oversight
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and support proposal development
- Mentor and support junior team members
- Build and maintain strong client relationships
- Identify and support business development opportunities
- Ensure compliance with internal standards, risk management, and health, safety, and environmental procedures
Job Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile):
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng, BSc, or equivalent)
- 9–15 years’ relevant practical experience
- Strong experience in engineering studies from concept through to feasibility
- Experience in both greenfields and brownfields projects
- Knowledge of underground mining systems, including decline and shaft access, materials handling, fleet selection and maintenance, personnel transport, hydrocarbon transport systems, and mine infrastructure
- Experience in technical report writing, specifications, vendor evaluation, cost estimation, commissioning, quality control, and project management
- Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and regulations
