Are you an experienced mechanical draughtsperson in the Conveyor and Materials Handling field looking to drive impactful projects and drive technical innovation? NEPEAN Conveyors is seeking a Senior Mechanical Draughtsperson to support our efforts to drive technical excellence in our design solutions in Africa.
We are seeking a high-caliber Senior Mechanical Draughtsperson specializing in heavy bulk materials handling infrastructure. In this role, you will lead the technical draughting and detailing of complex conveyor systems and associated machinery from initial flow sheets through to final workshop fabrication drawings. You will be responsible for ensuring strict compliance with stringent mining house specifications and international engineering standards.
What you will do
- System Layout & Detail Design:
Generate comprehensive 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings for complete conveyor systems (overland, plant, feed, and stockpiling conveyors), transfer chutes, trippers, and bins. Dealing with Lidar Scans and Point Clouds. - Component Detailing:
Produce precise mechanical drawings for critical conveyor components and sub-assemblies, including pulleys (drive, non-drive, snub), idler structures (troughing, return, impact frames), drive packs (motors, gearboxes, fluid couplings), scraper systems, and take-up arrangements. - Machinery Integration:
Draft detailed layouts for heavy materials handling machinery, including apron/belt/vibratory feeders, stackers, reclaimers, crushers, and screens. - Compliance & Quality Control:
Apply and enforce design standards across all models, performing drawing checks to ensure error-free fabrication. - Client & Engineering Liaison:
Interface directly with structural/mechanical engineers and client project teams to align drawings with strict project briefs.
What We Are Looking For
- Education:
Diploma in Draughting (NQF Level
5), NQF Level 6 is advantageous - Experience:
5 to 10 years of dedicated mechanical draughting experience within a bulk materials handling or heavy engineering environment.
- Technical Standards:
Deep, practical understanding of CMA / CEMA / ISO conveyor design standards and SANS 1313 specifications, Australian standards. - Client Specs:
Proven track record working with rigid mining house standards, specifically Anglo American, Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources, BHP and Rio Tinto. - Software Mastery:
Advanced proficiency in Inventor (creating Scripts for Inventor) / AutoCAD, Recap & Navis Works, as well as MsOffice Suite.
