Requirements
- An LLB degree
- An Admitted Attorney or Bar Advocate
- A minimum of 5 years post admission experience
- A valid Code EB driver’s license is recommended
- Computer literacy in MS Office Suite and SAP
- Legal research, advisory and contract drafting skills, sound
knowledge of local government, legislation, policies and procedures,
litigation.
- Proven experience in civil litigation and evictions in both Magistrate
and High Court
- Experience in one or more of the following will be advantageous:
Property Law, Public Administration, Environmental Law.
Key Performance Areas
- Provide legal advice to line departments and Council structures
through the drafting and delivery of legal advice and general legal
support.
- Manage the resolution of legal disputes across courts and other
forums, ensuring effective representation of the City’s interests.
- Conduct consultations, legal research, draft, review, and amend
agreements in accordance with client specifications, applicable
legislation, policies, and delegated authority, utilising approved
precedents.
- Provide legal guidance and advice during Council meetings and to
line departments.
- Attend to correspondence and respond to enquiries relating to
legal services, systems, and ongoing projects.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior legal advisors.
- Effectively manage a high volume of legal matters alongside
associated administrative responsibilities.
- Guide, consult and advise high level stakeholders and forums within
Council.
