The incumbent will have the following responsibilities:
- Teaching chemistry and physics to prospective science teachers enrolled in the B.Ed and PGCE programmes respectively, with a primary and high school focus.
- Teaching honours students and providing supervision for their research projects related to science education.
- Supervising postgraduate students on masters and doctoral level in science education and related fields.
- Conducting regular assessments in the teacher education programmes.
- Evaluating campus-based and school-based lesson presentations.
- Engaging in research in science education and related fields.
- Publishing research in reputable academic and peer-reviewed journals.
- Participating in community-driven, social impact projects in science education, making a meaningful difference beyond the classroom.
- Serving and participating in Faculty programme committees.
- Contributing to academic administration and leadership in the Department and Faculty.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- For Senior Lecturer: A relevant PhD in science education specialising in physics and chemistry as core elements. Experienced in teaching sciences in higher education contexts. Experienced in supervising postgraduate students at honours, master’s and doctoral level in science education. Proven track record in chosen area/s of specialisation, and relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.
For Lecturer: A relevant master’s degree in science education specialising in physics and chemistry as core elements. Experienced in supervising and co-supervising postgraduate students at the honours level. Proven track record in conducting research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.- A relevant postgraduate qualification to teach physical and natural sciences with a strong background in chemistry and physics.
- An undergraduate degree with physics or chemistry, or both, as a major.
- At least five years’ proven experience in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision.
- Competent in using technology in science teaching, including the use of relevant apps.
- Commitment to community engagement and knowledge-sharing.
- Good communication skills in English and Afrikaans will be advantageous.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- PhD or proof of registration or proposal for PhD (if not in possession of a PhD yet) on lecturer level position.
- Experience in and or knowledge of South African education contexts.
- Experience and/or knowledge of technology-aided education.
