SENIOR LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Responsibilities

The incumbent to contribute to the functioning of the Department of Chemical Engineering;

  • Effective management of the Analytical laboratory and instrumentation;
  • Operation and Maintenance;
  • Practical and Research Support.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant 3-year National Diploma in chemistry or analytical chemistry;
  • At least 1 years’ experience in the use and maintenance of characterization and analytical instruments including ICP-OES, Elemental Analyser, HPLC/TOF, IC, TGA, DSC UV-Vis and FTIR;
  • Experience in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment and analytical instruments;
  • Experience in laboratory safety;
  • A valid driver’s license (Code B or EB).

Added Advantages And Preferences

  • A first degree qualification, BTech or BSc in Chemistry or Analytical chemistry & instrumentation;
  • First aid qualification ;
  • At least 1 year higher education experience.

Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes)

Knowledge of the following:

  • Which conventional analytical laboratory techniques are used for which types of experimental investigations;
  • Analytical chemistry and instrumentation;
  • Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and analytical instruments;

Technical Competencies

  • Computer Skills (Excel, Word & PowerPoint);
  • PeopleSoft;

Behavioural Competencies

  • Good interpersonal skills of working in an environment of diverse cultures and groups;
  • Good language and communication skills;
  • Ability to cope with stringent deadlines and work pressure;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Organisational and networking skills.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED / UMVOZU medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
