Role Overview

The Senior Housekeeper is responsible for supervising housekeeping operations and ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation throughout the hotel.

The role supports the Executive Housekeeper in managing housekeeping staff, inspecting guest rooms and public areas, and ensuring efficient coordination with other departments to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

The Senior Housekeeper plays a key role in maintaining operational standards and ensuring that all guest rooms and facilities meet the hotel’s quality and service expectations

Key ResponsibilitiesHousekeeping Supervision

  • Supervise housekeeping staff including room attendants, public area cleaners, and laundry staff.
  • Allocate daily cleaning schedules and tasks to housekeeping team members.
  • Monitor staff performance and ensure adherence to housekeeping standards.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to housekeeping staff.

Room & Area Inspections

  • Inspect guest rooms after cleaning to ensure quality and cleanliness standards are met.
  • Conduct inspections of public areas including corridors, lobbies, and restrooms.
  • Ensure rooms are prepared according to hotel standards before guest arrival.
  • Report maintenance issues or defects to the maintenance department.

Operational Coordination

  • Coordinate with the Front Office regarding room availability and guest check-ins.
  • Ensure housekeeping operations align with occupancy levels.
  • Assist with managing linen and housekeeping supply levels.

Inventory & Supplies Management

  • Monitor housekeeping inventory including cleaning supplies, guest amenities, and linen.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Assist with ordering and controlling housekeeping supplies.

Quality & Hygiene Standards

  • Ensure compliance with hotel cleanliness standards and health regulations.
  • Promote high standards of hygiene and safety within the housekeeping department.
  • Address guest requests or complaints relating to room cleanliness.

Administrative Duties

  • Assist with preparing housekeeping reports.
  • Maintain housekeeping records and inspection logs.
  • Support the Executive Housekeeper with scheduling and operational planning.

  • Guest room cleanliness ratings
  • Room turnaround time
  • Housekeeping inspection scores
  • Linen and supply cost control
  • Guest satisfaction relating to cleanliness

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality or Housekeeping Management (advantageous)
  • Minimum 3–5 years experience in hotel housekeeping, including supervisory experience
