Summary:

The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining accurate and relevant dashboards and reports that support data-driven decision-making across Massmart. The role is also required to deliver mid-complexity analytics solutions, perform trend analysis, and ensure data quality through validation and alignment with enterprise standards.

FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Dashboard and Report Creation

  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and reports using governed data sources, ensuring consistency with enterprise standards and definitions.
  • Apply best practices in visualization design, including interactivity, drill-down functionality, and user-friendly layouts.
  • Maintain a report library with proper version control, updating dashboards as business priorities change.
  • Document report logic, data sources, and calculations for transparency and reusability.
  • Continuously refine reporting solutions based on user feedback and business needs.

Data Analysis and Interpretation

  • Conduct trend, variance, and correlation analysis to provide insight into changes in key performance metrics.
  • Translate raw data into clear narratives and visuals that support business decision-making.
  • Support root-cause analysis of performance issues and surface tactical recommendations to address gaps.
  • Collaborate with senior analysts to build multi-source datasets and more advanced analytics outputs.

Data Management and Validation

  • Perform validation and quality checks on all reports and dashboards before release, ensuring accuracy and business confidence.
  • Align with data dictionaries, governance standards, and definitions, flagging inconsistencies or anomalies to governance or data engineering teams.
  • Prepare and clean data sets for new reporting requirements, ensuring repeatability and consistency.
  • Follow established update cycles and version control processes for reporting products.

Stakeholder Management and Support

  • Act as a first-line support contact for end users, resolving dashboard access issues and reporting queries.
  • Collaborate with business teams to scope requirements for new dashboards or enhancements.
  • Provide timely reporting and insights to support ad hoc business initiatives, campaigns, or projects.
  • Contribute to training sessions or demos to improve stakeholder understanding of BI tools and dashboards.

Requirements:

Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications and Experience required for this position

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree / Advanced Diploma in Business Analytics/ Information Systems/ Computer Science/ Statistics related qualification.
  • Honours degree / Postgraduate Diploma in Business Analytics/ Information Systems/ Computer Science/ Statistics related qualification advantageous.
  • Certification in BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) or Data Visualization Governance advantageous.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in analytics/BI/reporting roles working with large, complex datasets and integrating multiple data sources within retail, multi-format, or omni-channel organizations.
  • Proven ability to design and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables)
  • Proficient in SQL/big query

Technical Skills

  • BI & Visualization Tools e.g., Power BI (DAX), Tableau, or equivalent (strong working knowledge).
  • Intermediate SQL for joining, filtering, and preparing datasets.
  • Familiarity with data dictionaries, governance frameworks, and validation processes.
  • Ability to schedule and refresh automated reports to reduce manual work.
  • MS Teams, Confluence, Jira for requirement gathering and issue tracking.
  • Advanced knowledge of data manipulation and ad hoc analysis.
