Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Risk Officer, located in Accra.

Risk Identification and Assessment: – Identifying potential risks across all aspects of pension scheme operations, including investment, operational, compliance, and strategic risks. Assessing the quality of issuers of investment instruments and the underlying assets of the pension fund. Evaluating various operational risk indicators within the administration of the pension scheme.

Risk Monitoring and Reporting: – Continuously monitoring the identified risks and the effectiveness of existing control measures.

Preparing regular risk reports for the trustee board, highlighting key risk exposures, control deficiencies, and recommended actions. Tracking compliance with internal risk policies, regulatory requirements, and NPRA guidelines.

Risk Mitigation and Control: – Developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies and control procedures to minimize exposure to identified risks.

Working with various departments (e.g., investment, operations, legal) to integrate risk management practices into daily activities.

Ensuring that appropriate indemnity provisions are in place for prescribed risks attributable to the administration of schemes.

 Policy and Framework Development: – Assisting in the development and review of the pension scheme's risk management policy, framework, and appetite statement.

Ensuring that the risk management framework aligns with NPRA requirements and international best practices.

Compliance Oversight: – Monitoring the scheme's adherence to the National Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766), as amended, and other relevant NPRA directives and guidelines.

Identifying and reporting any instances of non-compliance to the trustee board and, where necessary, to the NPRA.

The Risk Officer will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating market and enterprise risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting the financial stability of the organization. Day-to-day tasks will include monitoring financial risk exposures, developing and implementing risk management strategies, assessing enterprise risk frameworks, and preparing reports to ensure appropriate risk governance. Collaboration with other departments to enhance overall compliance and risk management policies forms a key part of this role.

Qualifications

  • BSc / MSc Finance, Economics, or Actuarial Science
  • operational & investment risk
  • BSc Mathematics / Statistics /
  • MBA with Risk or Financial Management specialization
  • Risk Management Certifications
  • Financial Risk Manager
  • Proficiency in Enterprise Risk Management to identify, assess, and mitigate risks effectively
  • Strong understanding of Regulatory Compliance processes and frameworks
  • Exceptional Analytical Skills to interpret and apply risk-related data and trends
  • In-depth knowledge of Finance to evaluate complex financial products and processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage deadlines effectively
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field
  • Professional certifications in risk management, finance, or compliance are a plus
