Introduction:
The Rigger will be responsible for lifting, moving, positioning, and securing heavy equipment, machinery, and materials during drydock maintenance and ship repair operations.
The successful candidate will ensure all rigging activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with operational and safety standards..
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform rigging and lifting operations for vessel maintenance and repair activities
- Inspect and prepare lifting gear, slings, chains, ropes, and rigging equipment before use
- Safely move and position machinery, equipment, and materials within the drydock environment
- Assist with installation and removal of marine equipment and components
- Ensure all lifting operations comply with safety regulations and procedures
- Conduct routine inspections of rigging equipment and report defects
- Communicate effectively with crane operators, supervisors, and technical teams during lifting operations
- Maintain housekeeping and safe working conditions in work areas
- Complete rigging documentation and inspection records where required
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Mandatory:
- Valid Trade Test Certificate
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience related to drydock maintenance requirements
- Contactable references required
Preferred:
- Sound knowledge of rigging procedures, marine lifting operations and heavy equipment handling.
- Ability to work safely at heights and in confined spaces where required
- Background in the ship repair industry or marine maintenance environments
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
Experience:
- drydock maintenance requirements: 2 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- Trade Test Certificate (Required)
