Retail Sales Assistant – Copy Centre (Print & Branding) Jobs in Durban at THE PRINT SHOP
About the role
The Print Shop is hiring a Retail Sales Assistant for our copy centre – the busy walk-in heart of our Durban North shop. This is a hybrid role: half front-of-house sales, half hands-on production. You’ll greet customers, take their brief, knock up a quick design, run it through our digital presses, finish it, and have them out the door with their job in hand.
If you’re the kind of person who likes being on your feet, juggling three customers at once and getting things printed NOW, this is the role. If you prefer sitting at a quiet desk, this isn’t it.
This is a 6-day-week role with weekend hours: regular Saturdays and rotating Sundays. If your weekends are sacred, this isn’t the role.
What you’ll do
– Greet and serve walk-in customers – copies, prints, business cards, flyers, posters, banners, T-shirts, branded gifting
– Take briefs on the spot; suggest options; upsell to a better finish, larger run, lamination, mounting
– Quote on the fly for standard jobs from our price list
– Knock up quick design for customers who come in with rough ideas or supplied artwork – business cards, flyers, signage, basic layout work
– Run the digital press, copier, plotter, laminator, binders, guillotine and finishing equipment
– Bind, laminate, cut, fold, package – the actual production hands-on
– Take payments (cash + card), daily cash-up, reconcile against the system
– Keep the shop floor and counter clean, tidy and stocked
Must-have
– 1+ year retail sales / customer-facing experience
– Basic graphic design – comfortable in CorelDRAW, Photoshop, Illustrator or Canva (we use CorelDRAW)
– Comfortable working WITH PEOPLE – friendly, patient, helpful under pressure
– Comfortable working WITH YOUR HANDS – operating machines, feeding paper, finishing, lifting reams; you’ll be on your feet most of the day
– Comfortable working UNDER PRESSURE – multiple customers, tight deadlines, all happening at once
– Available to work weekends (Saturdays + rotating Sundays)
– Based in Durban / able to commute to Durban North daily
Advantageous
– Previous copy-centre or print-shop experience
– CorelDRAW specifically (print-industry standard)
– Cash-handling / point-of-sale experience
– isiZulu in addition to English (our walk-in customer base)
– Knowledge of standard finishing – lamination, binding, cutting, mounting

We’re a full-service branding, printing and signage company in Durban North – large-format, signage, copy centre, DTP and a busy 24-hour digital press operation. Small, friendly, fast-paced team; serious about quality and turning customers around fast.
Pay: R6,000 – R9,000 per month (market-related, depends on experience)
Hours: Mon-Fri 08:00-17:30 + Saturday 08:00-13:00 + rotating Sunday shifts
