Retail Operations Manager Jobs in Stellenbosch at About Cats & Dogs
We are looking for a hands-on Retail Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of 23 retail stores, which are mostly in the Western Cape – predominantly the northern suburbs and Stellenbosch, but we have stores in Robertson, Hermanus, Swellendam, Gauteng and Upington as well.
This is a fast-paced operational role for someone who enjoys being on the ground in stores, solving problems, supporting teams and ensuring high operational standards across multiple branches.
The role reports directly to the CEO and requires someone who is proactive, solutions-focused and comfortable taking ownership of operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations across 23 retail branches
- Manage store rosters and staffing efficiency
- Implement growth strategies as per the CEO expectations
- Identify and resolve operational risks and store issues
- Maintain consistent store standards and customer experience
- Travel between branches to support store teams
- Provide hands-on support in stores when required
- Monitor operational performance and report to the CEO
- Support teams with product knowledge and operational guidance
Requirements
- Previous senior retail or multi-store management experience
- Strong operational leadership and problem-solving ability
- Comfortable being hands-on in stores
- Strong technical ability with Google Docs and spreadsheets as well as hardware such as price scanners and printers
- Willing to travel between stores and be available when needed
- Knowledge of pet food or pet retail will be a strong advantage
- Own reliable transport and valid driver’s license

KPI STRUCTURE
1. Store Operational Performance
Target: 90%+ operational compliance across all stores.
2. Staffing & Rostering Efficiency
Target: Labour cost maintained within approved labour-to-sales ratio.
3. Issue Resolution
Target: Operational issues addressed within 1 hour.
4. Store Visits
Target: Regular visits to all branches according to store size and priority.
5. Shrinkage Control
Target: Maintain stock loss below company threshold.
6. Store Standards
Target: 90%+ compliance on store presentation and merchandising audits.
7. Product Knowledge Training
Target: All store staff trained on key product categories.
8. Reporting
Target: Accurate and timely weekly operational reporting to the CEO.
