Regional Operations Manager Jobs in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa at Uber

Title: Regional Operations Manager

Company: Uber

Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

About The Role

This is a high-impact role at the heart of Uber's low-cost transportation strategy in EMEA. You will join the regional program team overseeing both Moto and the broader Low Cost portfolio, with a mandate to define, test, and scale the operational strategy for this high-priority category.

You will strengthen our 2-wheel supply position across both Mobility and Delivery by enabling cross-dispatch between Uber Eats and Uber Moto. Cross-dispatch creates an asymmetric advantage for Uber, makes the business more resilient, and unlocks more earning opportunities for couriers and drivers.

As a Regional Operations Manager, you will drive Moto and low-cost performance across EMEA, from new market launches to scaling and optimizing existing markets.

What You'll Do

  • Lead geo-expansion and market launches for Moto & Low Cost
  • Identify and prioritize expansion opportunities (new cities and new countries) in partnership with regional teams.
  • Own the playbook for launches, providing functional expertise, best practices, and hands-on support to ensure high-quality go-lives.
  • Leverage the global stakeholder network to proactively remove launch and scaling roadblocks.
  • Deeply understand 2-wheel and low-cost earners, their needs, economics, and behaviors.
  • Define strategies that drive earner acquisition, engagement, and retention while safeguarding marketplace health and unit economics.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Regional Ops, Policy, and Safety to design scalable solutions that improve earner experience and platform reliability.
  • Influence functional roadmaps by clearly articulating problems, quantifying impact, and championing EMEA needs.
  • Ensure smooth execution of cross-functional projects, from problem definition through rollout and performance tracking.
  • Design and iterate on globally relevant levers to grow and lock in" supply (e.g., OneEarner instant funnel, loyalty programs, engagement and incentive schemes).
  • Run experiments and pilots, synthesize regional learnings, and scale proven solutions across markets.
  • Advocate for tech and tooling improvements that unlock step-change efficiency and experience gains for earners and operators.

What You'll Need

  • 6+ years of experience in operations, strategy, or data-driven roles in industries such as technology, management consulting, investment banking, or FMCG.
  • Proven data and analytics fluency, including:
  • Advanced Excel/Sheets skills (complex formulas, dashboards).
  • Experience working with large datasets, deriving insights, and turning them into clear recommendations.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making and business judgment; able to connect analysis to commercial and operational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving mindset: can break down ambiguous problems, propose structured solutions, and partner with regions to remove growth blockers.
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills, including working with senior and cross-functional partners.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.

Bonus Points If

  • Experience working across multiple product verticals and/or mega-regions, ideally within EMEA.
  • Strong executive communication skills – able to synthesize complex insights into concise, action-oriented recommendations.
  • Track record of building playbooks, scalable processes, and governance mechanisms, and driving best-practice adoption across markets.
  • Familiarity with marketplace dynamics (supply/demand, incentives, unit economics) and with 2-wheel and Moto & Quads supply models is a plus.
