Role Overview

The QHSE Manager will lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Quality, Health, Safety, Environment (QHSE) and ESG systems. The role ensures compliance with the company’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), applicable legislation, and international standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.

The role holder will oversee QHSE governance, risk management, audits, incident management, ESG reporting, and sustainability initiatives while embedding a strong safety and compliance culture across operations.

Key Responsibilities

QHSE Leadership & Compliance

  • Provide technical guidance and advisory support on QHSE matters in Zimbabwe operations.
  • Promote a strong QHSE culture and ensure effective communication of standards and expectations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, ESMS requirements, national legislation, and international best practices.

ESMS & Documentation Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain QHSE policies, procedures, plans, and ESMS documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records for audits, inspections, incidents, training, and compliance reporting.
  • Ensure project-specific QHSE documentation is established and maintained.

Risk Management & Operational Control

  • Conduct risk assessments, safety analyses, and environmental monitoring activities.
  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions arising from audits, inspections, and investigations.

Audits, Inspections & Incident Management

  • Plan and conduct QHSE audits, inspections, and compliance monitoring activities.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure timely compliance reporting.

Training & Contractor Management

  • Deliver QHSE training and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
  • Identify competency gaps and implement capacity-building initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate supplier and contractor QHSE/ESG performance.

ESG & Sustainability

  • Support implementation of sustainability initiatives including waste reduction, environmental protection, and social responsibility programs.
  • Integrate ESG considerations into operational and QHSE practices.
  • Support Group ESG reporting, audits, due diligence exercises, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices to strengthen Group-wide QHSE and ESG performance.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Successful implementation of QHSE and ESG programs across Zimbabwe operations.
  • Compliance with ESMS requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Reduction in workplace incidents and improvement in EHS performance metrics.
  • Timely submission of accurate QHSE and ESG reports.
  • Improved audit outcomes and closure of corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • Professional QHSE certifications such as NEBOSH, ISO Lead Auditor, or equivalent are an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in QHSE and/or ESG management.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations within Zimbabwe.

Must-Have Skills

  • Experience in risk assessments, inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Strong understanding of QHSE systems, ESMS implementation, and compliance management.
  • Ability to develop and implement QHSE policies, procedures, and operational controls.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication and training facilitation skills.
  • Ability to drive a proactive safety and sustainability culture across operations.
  • Experience managing corrective and preventive action processes.
  • Competence in incident reporting, root cause analysis, and compliance reporting.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drive) and QHSE reporting systems.

Good-to-Have Skills

  • ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 implementation and audit experience.
  • ESG reporting and sustainability program implementation experience.
  • Experience working across multiple countries or regional operations.
  • Contractor and supplier QHSE performance management experience.
  • Emergency preparedness and response planning expertise.
  • Experience liaising with regulatory authorities.
  • Ability to support due diligence exercises and Group-wide ESG initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and continuous improvement mindset.
