The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly analytical and commercially minded Project Controller to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will act as the financial and operational co-pilot to our Project Managers, ensuring the successful execution of large-scale electromechanical and infrastructure projects. You will move beyond simple reporting to provide strategic insights, manage project risks, and ensure profitability and cash flow optimization throughout the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Monitoring & Analysis:
  • Take ownership of the financial health of assigned projects, rigorously monitoring actuals vs. budget/forecast.
  • Prepare high-quality monthly Project Status Reports (PSR), analyzing variances, identifying trends, and highlighting financial risks and opportunities to project leadership and senior management.
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses into project cost structures to ensure accuracy and identify areas for cost optimization.
  • Tendering & Commercial Support:
  • Partner actively with the commercial and proposal teams during the pre-contract phase.
  • Critically review tender costings, validate assumptions, and assess the financial implications of commercial terms and contract conditions before offer submission.
  • Project Planning & Controls:
  • Support project delivery by ensuring proper tracking of project budgets, forecasts, and expenditure .
  • Manage the project controls systems, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, schedules, and resource allocation .
  • Prepare budget allocations, cost forecasts, and cash flow forecasts to manage working capital effectively .
  • Operational Controllership:
  • Drive the project controlling mechanism, including validating vendor invoices against project milestones and managing delivery documentation.
  • Proactively manage working capital by driving debt collection efforts and optimizing billing schedules.
  • Administer commercial instruments, including arranging necessary insurance policies and performance bonds.
  • Stakeholder Management & Compliance:
  • Act as a trusted business partner to Project Managers and engineering teams, providing financial data to support operational decision-making.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and corporate finance teams to support project approval processes.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, internal work instructions, and quality standards (ISO).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related commercial discipline.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in project controls, cost management, and project accounting, preferably within the engineering, construction, or power/energy sectors .
  • Demonstrable experience in managing the financial aspects of complex, large-scale projects from tendering to completion.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong grasp of project accounting principles (e.g., revenue recognition, WIP analysis, project costing methods).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, managing large datasets).
  • Experience with SAP and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) is highly advantageous.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business insights.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possession of strong team spirit combined with the ability to work independently.
  • Assertive communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
