Job Description
Location: Outer West, eThekwini (KwaZulu-Natal)
Reporting to: Executive Director
The Valley Trust invites applications for the position of Programmes Manager. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and oversight of all programmes.
The successful candidate will lead programme design and delivery, ensure alignment with organisational strategy, manage teams, and strengthen stakeholder relationships, while maintaining high standards of accountability, quality, and impact.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Programme Leadership & Management
- Lead the full project cycle: conceptualisation, planning, implementation, monitoring, and closure
- Ensure programmes are aligned with organisational vision and community needs
- Develop and implement quality assurance systems
- Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems across all programmes
- Financial Management
- Lead the development of programme budgets
- Monitor expenditure and ensure alignment with approved budgets
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and donor requirements
- People Management
- Build, lead, and support high-performing programme teams
- Oversee recruitment, performance management, and staff development
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with donors, partners, and communities
- Identify and develop new partnerships and opportunities
- Represent the organisation in relevant forums and networks
- Organisational Leadership
- Contribute to the senior management team
- Support strategic planning, fundraising, and resource mobilisation
- Strengthen integration across programmes and organisational functions
Qualifications
Qualifications and Requirements
- A relevant 4-year degree
Experience
- 3 year proven experience in programme/project management within the development sector
- Strong experience in managing teams and multi-layered projects
- Experience in budgeting, financial oversight, and donor reporting
- Demonstrated experience in programme design and implementation
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Strategic thinking and analytical ability
- Excellent communication skills (English and isiZulu)
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation systems
- Understanding of community development, public health, and sustainable development
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Computer literacy (MS Office and relevant systems)
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel
