Major Responsibilities

The Programme Assistant, Sustainable Landscape will support the technical and operational implementation of the Forests and Biodiversity Programme projects, including the collection, analysis, and interpretation of environmental and biodiversity data, as well as GIS activities and mapping of priority areas. He/she will contribute to programme indicator monitoring and the preparation of technical reports, briefs, and concept notes, ensuring that projects integrate nature-based solutions and conservation practices.

Additionally, the Programme Assistant, Sustainable Landscapes will provide logistical, operational and organisational support for events and field missions, assist in documentation and database management, and support the implementation of advocacy and biodiversity mainstreaming activities, participating in consultations, meetings, and workshops with strategic partners, government institutions, and the private sector.

The Programme Assistant, Sustainable Landscapes will report directly to the Senior Programme Officer for Forest and Biodiversity and interfaces regularly with projects officer for each project.

Specific Duties

Technical Support to Projects and program;

Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of environmental and biodiversity data (flora, fauna, soil, land use).

Participate in GIS activities and mapping of restoration and biodiversity areas.

Support the monitoring of programme indicators (e.g., conservation, FLR, sustainable agriculture indicators).

Contribute to technical reports, briefs, and concept notes for ongoing projects in the programme.

Support the identification of funding opportunities relevant to the programme by tracking donor calls, compiling requirements, and summarising key information for the team.

Assist in the preparation of concept notes by supporting the drafting of background sections.

Advocacy and Policy Integration;

Support processes for biodiversity mainstreaming and integration of nature-based solutions into local and national policies.

Prepare policy briefs, technical summaries, and presentations for decision-makers and strategic partners.

Participate in consultations and meetings with ministries, NGOs, and private sector partners, representing the programme when required.

Operations and Logistical Support;

Organise workshops, seminars, technical meetings, and field missions.

Prepare agendas, participant lists, correspondence, and meeting notes.

Assist with project administrative processes, including contracts, travel arrangements, procurement, financial reconciliations, and record-keeping.

Communication and Internal Coordination;

Support communication between projects, technical teams, and external partners.

Maintain up-to-date stakeholder databases, calendars, and programme documentation.

Contribute to newsletters, quarterly reports, and other dissemination products.

REQUIREMENTS

  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education; Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, Forest, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Public Policy, or related fields.

Work Experience;

3 years of experience in environmental, biodiversity, or rural development projects.

Experience in GIS, environmental monitoring, policy advocacy, or project support is an advantage.

Experience in organising events, preparing reports, and providing administrative support to projects.

Technical Competencies;

Knowledge of biodiversity, landscape restoration, and conservation.

Basic experience in GIS and spatial analysis.

Ability to collect and analyse environmental data and project indicators.

Interest in and potential for environmental policy advocacy and integrating biodiversity into productive sectors.

Language Proficiency;

Proficiency in English (writing and speaking) as a working language.

Fluency in Portuguese.
